I'm goin' back to Cali...Cali...Cali...(yo California DUers)
Hey San Francisco/Oakland/Berkeley DUers: I am giving a talk at Berkeley on Friday night at Berkeley Fellowship Unitarian Universalists, 1924 Cedar Street (Cedar @ Bonita), from 7pm to 9pm. We are asking for a couple of bucks at the door, but no one will be turned away. MORE TO THE POINT, however, is the fact that I have been instructed by fellow PDAer Kevin Spidel to find a place to have a beer afterwards. Come to the talk, and help us find a good bar.

I am going to be speaking in Sacramento on Saturday, 10:00a.m. – 1:00p.m. at the Paratransit Building at 2501 Florin Road. Unfortunately, I can't stick around for beer and fellowship, because I have to haul ass to LA for a speech and a play at the Mark Taper forum Saturday night. I have no idea what my situation is going to be when this is done; like as not I will just go fall down somewhere.

Sunday is going to be a big day. I am speaking WITH REP. LYNN WOOLSEY (!!!) at an event in Santa Rosa, which will be at 547 Mendocino. Weirdly, I don't have a time, grr. $35 for the speakers and reception and the whole thing, $10 for speakers and panel discussion only. The money is for PDA.

I am trying to figure out where I am going to be crashing Sunday night. I am hoping Oakland, because I have to catch a plane early Monday to head back home. I will let you know when I find out.

So come on out and play. :)

5. What's it going to take to get you out to a University
in the Heartland? Specifically The University of Kansas?

On a side note - be careful in Oakland. With all due respect to Cali DU'ers, Oakland is one scary ass place.

33. I could hit KU.
That would get a multistate crowd. People are used to traveling all over the Midwest just to see and get the same things that people on the coast take for granted.

13. I don't know who did it first
but VH1 did this special about Biggie's murder.

That song was released on his album right before he was murdered in California.

28. Here is the media alert for the Sunday thing
National Progressive leaders to visit Sonoma for political strategy, mobilization talks

Santa Rosa, CA – Leaders of a national organization of reform-minded Democrats
who helped engineer the California Democratic Party’s surprise adoption of
an end-the-Iraq-war resolution last month will be here on June 5 to confer
with local officials, political and labor leaders, and activists about mobilizing
support to address local, state, and national issues.

Among the locally prominent leaders who will be involved are U.S. Rep. Lynn
Woolsey, Ron Sundergill of the Leadership Institute on Ecology and the Environment,
Elections Supervisor/Activist and former President of League of Women Voters
Eve Roberson, local labor leader Alsrevo Sanchez, and Sonoma West Times & News
reporter Dawn Pillsbury.

Included on the strategy agenda will be Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s proposed
special election ballot initiatives regarding redistricting, budget priorities,
and teacher tenure. The strategy talks are also expected to focus on the looming
battle over genetically modified crop ordinances in SonomaCounty and elsewhere
in the state, as well as national issues, such as pending budget authorization
for the war, Social Security, judicial appointments, and the Central American
Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).

It will be the first visit to Sonoma County by leaders of Progressive Democrats
of America (PDA: www.pdamerica.org), an organization that was formed last year
out of the frustration among liberal Democrats toward the Party’s positions
and initiatives. Last month, PDA challenged national Party Chairman Howard
Dean to reconsider comments he made that “we’re stuck” in Iraq with no way
out. More than 80 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Woolsey,
co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, have sent letters and signed
petitions pressuring Dean to back off his position.

Heading the PDA contingent will be Kevin Spidel, National Political Director
and William Rivers Pitt, Editorial Director. The newly formed
ProgressiveDemocratsSonomaCounty
with about 40 members, is co-chaired by nurse activist Anna Givens and women’s
and anti-nuclear activist Mervis Reissig, who met while campaigning for Dennis
Kucinich. Six members of the new chapter were recently named to the Party’s
Central Committee.

The discussions will be part of an afternoon event that includes a panel discussion
on “Getting the Truth Out in Media” and an open forum to talk about building
Progressive grassroots support for candidates, ballot issues, and legislative
initiatives at all levels. Popular entertainer and political commentator Sherry
Glaser will emcee the event, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the newly refurbished venue
at 547 Mendocino Avenue. A reception to give attendees an opportunity to discuss
issues will follow. Tickets are available at all Copperfield’s locations; the
Last Record Store, 1899 Mendocino Ave.; or by calling (707) 586-5913.

The event itself is being co-sponsored by Project Censored, Women for a Better
World, Town Hall Coalition, and RedwoodEmpireEnvironmentalCenter.
