What movie are you really looking forward to seeing
I have 4 movies that I'm anxiously waiting to see!!

  1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Personally, I never liked the 1972 version of the movie and I was told that Tim Burton has kept truer to the book than what was done with the original movie (which btw CATCF author Roald Dahl hated the 1972 movie).
  2. Memoirs of a Geisha - Finally, this book has been tossed around by several directors including Stephen Spielburg until finally Rob Marhsall ("Chicago") took over as director. This is my all-time favorite book and I'm thinking it'll be a really good movie (if they stay true to the book. Hopefully they won't ruin it like they did with my other favorite book "The Cider House Rules")
  3. The DaVinci Code - Again, I hope they stay true to the book, but Ron Howard is directing and so far the cast looks fabulous (Tom Hanks and that girl from 'Amelie' as the leads).
  4. Sicko - that's Michael Moore's next movie about the Health Care Industry, should be interesting

What movies are you looking forward to seeing?

24. I want to see that one, too
While I don't think he's a great actor, I like a lot of Cruise's movies...

12. Ditto! I just finished the series last night
It was great! I'm sooooo sorry it didn't continue.

The movie should be fantastic. It'll be great to see a Wheddon picture on the big screen for once. The original Buffy movie, well... sucked.

9. Paheli (Sharukh Khan), War of the Worlds...Sicko, whenever that is...
Oh Sharukh, why are you so hot?

He has....skills. Nunchucking skills, computer skills, dancing skills...he's the most recognized movie star in the world, and I'm going to see his new film in the theater whether it has subtitles or not, that's how sexy and wonderful he is. Uh, enough gushing.

Ziyi Zhang is playing the main characters in "Memoirs of a Geisha". I've not read it, but I've heard for years how great it is, so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

War of the Worlds...Tom Cruise usually makes entertaining films, even if he has gone insane. :(

18. You have to read the book
It's absolutely amazing and breathtaking. Ziyi Zhang has the role of the heroine Sayuri Nitta, but the other 2 geishas they have Michelle Yeoh (Mameha - which is Sayuri's mentor) and Gong Li (Hatsumomo - who is Sayuri's rival). Plus they have Ken Watanabe in a very important role (he got an oscar nomination for the Last Samuri).

It should be really good even if they have a slew of non-japanese women playing the geishas (Zhang and Li are from China, Yeoh is from Malaysia, only the girl who plays Pumpkin is actually Japanese)

19. My sister's always after me to read it.
It's one of those things that, to me, doesn't sound like an enthralling read (I mean, how exciting is the life of a geisha, LOL?)--but so many people have loved it that I'm sure I'm missing something.

You know, like having read it. :silly:

Looks very interesting.

It was supposed to come out on Valentine's Day, but they pushed it back. It's supposed to be very gruesome. I'm excited!

13. How's Moving Castle
which is the new Miyazaki film.

I'm hoping /crosses fingers/ that it'll be not too scary that I can make it my son's first theater movie...

He loves Naussica and Laputa, and can barely handle Spirited Away.

I love Miyazaki. Laputa is one of my favorite films ever, and Spirited Away blew my mind.

And I don't care for boxing one little bit, but it's a true story from a pivotal time.

21. LynneSin, we should see a movie together!
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Personally, I never liked the 1972 version of the movie and I was told that Tim Burton has kept truer to the book than what was done with the original movie (which btw CATCF author Roald Dahl hated the 1972 movie)."

Soooooooo looking forward to this, and I too never liked the 1972 BrownVision version. I read that the person who adapted the script did not see the 1972 version and is basing it solely on the book. YAY! Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka is just the icing on the cake. I cannot wait!

28. What irritates me the most...
...is when people call Tim Burton's movie a remake of the Gene Wilder movie.

IT ISN'T!!!

They just happen to be 2 different movies based on the same book. The Gene Wilder movie decided to make a musical out of it and stray some from the book whereas Tim Burton stayed true.

If you're ever in the Philly area let me know - we'll go see a movie!!

25. Can you tell me about the "Geisha" book?
I found it odd that they cast 2 Chinese actresses who speak little English - Gong Li & Zhang Ziyi - in major roles in the movie knowing that geisha is a Japanese term. Sorry, I can't do a search today, my internet really sucks, so I'm sticking with just DU.
