9. Empire is my fave.
I have various crap items of Star Wars that are only from Empire. I wish that Lucas would have used Kirschner again.

though I enjoyed Episode 3 quite a bit.

3. Believe it or not, I still haven't seen it
The previews scared the kids when we went to see that Will Ferrell soccer movie. My 4-tear old son cried and I had to take him out into the lobby until he calmed down.

Think I'll wait to let the kids see it until it come out on DVD.

Anyone wanna babysit while me and Mrs. jandrok go and see it?

10. Yes...
as much as I loved seeing it on the big screen, for the second half I had to go to pee BIG TIME, and didn't want to leave, I thought I was going to explode, I actually contemplated going right there in my seat...and the couple in front of me who brought bags of twizlers and chips into the theatre with them and who were crushing and crunching them all throughout the film...ugh...didn't help either.

"I can feel your anger, it makes you stronger, it gives you focus!", said the Emperor to Placebo. :silly:

17. I Love to hate Palpatine....the reason why he's my Fave Character
Edited on Mon May-30-05 08:00 PM by DemGirl7
Even when I first saw Return of the Jedi...he quickly became my Favorite character...he makes Dick Cheney & Karl Rove look like amateurs...and it's about time the character of Palpatine got some respect, plus I really enjoyed the fight scenes that involved him...I've been waiting a long time to see him with a lightsaber...and he stole the show in this episode...because when it comes to movies, I love a evil genius.

19. Same here!
Seeing Palpatine/Sidious with a red lightsaber made me giddy as a wee schoolgirl. He's always been my favourite character, and you're right, now I love to hate him more than ever now that we've seen what he did to gain unlimited power.

21. Palpatine was a bad MFer
That duel with him and Yoda kicked ass.

Were it not for the one slightly hammy scene where he was zapping Mace Windu, I would say it is worthy of an Oscar nod. I think that is due to the direction, though.

26. That scene overall, at least while the lightning was flying
seemed maybe overdirected or overacted. Samuel Jackson was a little corny as well in that scene.

But, damn, other than that, Ian McDiarmid's performance was flat out chilling.

45. Palpatine needs to go down as one of the great villains of all time
Vader is now clearly a tragic hero-figure. The fallen angel.

Palpatine/Darth Sidious is now clearly the primary, shadowy villain of the Star Wars saga and it is he should go down as one of the great movie villains of all-time. Something nobody would have contemplated until the prequels.

7. damn the naysayers
I went last weekend with my kid, my ex, and a friend of my kid's.

The friend of my kid's has now seen it five times. He was an absolute riot and I think he may now have all the dialogue committed to memory.

I went with very low expectations, based on Episode 1 & 2. I was exceedingly pleasantly surprised and want to see it again as well. Feel like I missed a lot.

The weaving togerther of the latter episodes and the bridge to the first three was exceptionally well done. IMHO

Yeah I know the dialogue sucked. But still was entirely entertaining.

i submit to you master for no reason other than the fact that we have to keep things moving and keep the movie at about 150 minutes.

20. I agree...As a Jedi he would never submit to authority and questioned
everything. And then suddenly, he obeys all orders without question.

Still loved the movie. That part just bugged me. I really think that Lucas could have skipped Ep 1 and made at least 2 movies out of the Ep 3. Then he could have let Annakin struggle a bit more in his turn to the dark side.

He could have played both sides for awhile or something, then went for the ultimate betrayal.

Lords, I'm a Star Wars geek. :)

44. I think it could have been better explained
I skimmed that part in the book and there's a lot more dialogue, where after killing Mace, Anakin turns around is shocked at what he has done and is prepared to turn on Sidious, but Palpy manipulates him and points out that he has no hope now of ever being excepted by the Jedi - he has killed a Jedi Master and if he were to turn himself in, well, he'd be in deep shit.

I hope that Lucas released a director's cut version. An entire subplot involving the formation of the rebel alliance by Padme and Bail Organa was cut - it also weaves into Anakin's betrayal quite nicely.

I remember seeing Star Wars in 1977 and we were all so impressed with the two suns setting on Tattoin. At the end I was thinking, "Show the two suns, oh please, show the two suns!" I did enjoy Episode 3 more than I thought I would.

42. yep.--check this bio out...
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000489/

(snip) "Is listed as the Center of the Hollywood Universe by the Oracle of Kevin Bacon web site at the University of Virginia, because he can be linked to any one in Hollywood on average in 2.59 steps. That is less than either Charlton Heston or Kevin Bacon himself." (snip)

He claims to hold the record for the most amount of movie appearances for an actor, ever. One of our world's living treasures, imho.

46. "Only sith deal in absolutes"
What a great, timely line. I was so psyched to see Obi-Wan say that and pick up his sword to dispose of the man that was like his son. Like a person who's seen their trusted pet turn rabid, he knew that type of thinking couldn't be allowed to exist, that we need tolerance and a willingness to learn that of which we don't understand.

I know Lucas said that this last movie wasn't directly related to our present idiot-in-charge and that the story was more influenced by the Nixon era, but at a matinee in Birmingham, MI--a fairly conservative area by SE Michigan standards--the crowd cheered that line. It was so cool.
