I broke up with my boyfriend tonight...
Edited on Mon May-30-05 12:17 AM by arcos
I feel terrible, but we really couldn't have ended in better terms. We both agreed that it was the right and necessary thing to do, although we really didn't want to let go. The fact is that we no longer could fulfill each other's needs the way we used to, and we were only causing pain to the other.

We were together for slightly more than 2 years and it was an amazing relationship. I'm sure I will be ok soon, but it hurts very much right now.

3. I am very sorry.
I only have experienced long-term relationships in the past, and I have found enduring a break-up to be extremely difficult but enlightening thereafter.

When you are with someone for that long, the relationship is meaningful. Even if you are not with that person, his soul will be enmeshed with yours - his life will have had a shaping influence on yours, and vice versa. That's an experience to smile over.

I know it hurts now, and you may not see it yet, but it will be better. As cliche as it may be, every ending leads to a new beginning.

Hang in there.

Writer.

And for better or worse, it's not like he's leaving my life. We have lots of friends in common and we are involved in several projects together...

5. Best of luck.
The pain will pass in time.

For now, just put on some good music, get a stiff drink, a pack of smokes...and just be.

6. My condolences.
Sadly, (or not) none of my relationships have ended on good terms. I imagine that it must suck almost more if you broke up despite the goodness because the goodness still wasn't enough. I

14. Yes, it's kind of bittersweet...
It's sad when you wonder how many great things could have come out of it.

Thank you.

16. I can't imagine going through that right now...
....my gf and I are in the stage where we're falling in love so fast that neither one of us feels in control. If it ended a few months ago, there would be no real hurt. Now, however, we're both emotionally invested to the point of serious heartache should it end. I hope that you emerge from this experience a happier and better person. I, foolishly, selfishly, or perhaps both, hope I never have to experience what you're going through.

26. There's nothing good that can be said at the moment
Apart from letting you know that the manner of the split indicates what a splendid chap you are - it's a terrible cliche, but time really is the best healer. In the meantimes I'm sure that I speak for all of us DUers when I say

27. Sorry to hear.
I went through the same terrible experience a couple years ago...and still sometimes it hurts.

But, I realize I have learned more about myself and reached out and met people and done things I would not have done with him.

And that led to meeting the sweetest guy in the world.
