Poll question: How Many Of Us Smuggle Stuff Into Theatres??
Edited on Fri May-27-05 10:44 AM by mermaid
I'm curious. Because I do it with a fair amount of regularity, and I'm wondering how many others of us do, too.

The poll is set up so that you CAN remain anonymous...

Incidentally, the big purse is the BEST way to smuggle shit into the theatre. What's a shitload of fun, is to leave your smuggled wrappers, cans, etc for the movie employees to see, so that they know people are smuggling stuff, because their concessions are TOO FUCKING HIGH PRICED!! I'd leave a note with the wrappers, too, if I thought it would do any good...something to the effect of, "Hey, management? Don't like me bringing my own stuff? Then LOWER YOUR FUCKING PRICES...YOU GUYS ARE HIGHWAY ROBBERS WITH THOSE PRICES!!

So, anyway, what do you smuggle into the theatre??

1. Smuggled Items
I have been known, on occasion, to smuggle beer. I regularly smuggle soda. Often, I smuggle chips and candy as well. I have also smuggled in some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before...once, I managed to smuggle chicken strips and french fries!

2. Hi, Mermaid!
Yes, I admit. I smuggle Sonic Route 44 Cokes in. It's an art to do this, but I do it. We always buy theatre popcorn, though. :D

3. On the odd occasion that I have gone to a theater (rarely)
I stroll right in with my stuff in a plastic carrier bag. No one has ever said squat to me. I never hide the stuff. Sandwiches, sodas, some chips...

I prefer drive-ins in my old age. I like to bring a crowd, set up a table and a bunch of lounge chairs, put the young 'uns on a mat on top of the car, put the dog on a long leash, and have a buffet. We have a few adult beverages, as well, and bring along a designated driver. Makes for a nice evening...

and got a nasty look without a word.

12. when I was a kid
I smuggled in popcorn - it was in a big paper bag, rather obvious. Times long gone, as they knew some kids did this and didn't care (guess they caught on that we weren't going to have the $ to buy popcorn there, so there was no loss of profit.)

13. A tip for popcorn...
if you're going with a group and if you don't want to smuggle it in, proing along a grocery bag, buy the big tub, dump it in the bag and get your refill right away, who wants to leave in the middle of the movie to get more popcorn...

14. I don't eat junk food so I buy their bottled water...
at exorbitant prices and bring my own snacks. When they start serving nutritionally valid snacks then I'll buy from them. And yes, I've brought this up with management many times.

15. We no longer eat movie popcorn...
...due to the death dealing (I mean diabetes, heart disease, cancer etc.) oils they use. (They are not alone--processed polyunsaturated vegetable oils are in EVERYTHING.)

Instead we pocket an organic apple and raw milk org cheddar cheese before we leave the house. And do we feel good! :-)

P.S. Best popcorn ever is organic popcorn popped in coconut oil in our deep iron pan. Sprinkle with garlic powder and sea salt, and a little cayenne as desired. Mmmmmm!

24. I take my own low-fat popcorn.
That stuff they sell in the theaters is a real diet-buster.

Besides, I don't like my hands to be all greasy.

18. I smuggle other foods
I usually smuggle peanuts, shelled sunflower seeds, or some kind of veggie. My husband and I are low-carbers and there is NOTHING at the theater concession stands that we can have. I used to smuggle in sodas, but then I bought a new purse that is too small. :(

Edited on Fri May-27-05 10:52 AM by Lannes
They were the ones that bought up a big chunk of American movie theaters in the 80s,raised ticket prices and sold a thimble of coca-cola for 3 dollars.

Damn Canucks :)

21. They need to offer butter free popcorn!

I always take a purse with butter free in to the show.

I get so angry that they have no options for those on diets in terms of popcorn.

I wish they would say something to me, I would let them have it!

22. When I lived down the street
From the local theater, I would bring my own microwaved popcorn, tucked down the front of a fleece hoodie that pooched out so that it looked like I was a bit pregnant. Usually, it was still warm by the time I got to my seat.

29. It's obviously a hell of a lot easier to do in the winter
When you have an excuse to have the big coat with deep pockets.

I'd look pretty conspicuous walking into Star Wars today dressed like that (It was 90 here yesterday, and probably will be the same today)

30. I only go to the $2 movie theather and I dont eat during movies.
they charge $2 bc the movies are second run (they get the films after the $8 places are done with them).

If I eat that buttery popcorn or slurp down those huge drinks Ill end up in the bathroom during the climax of the movie. That and the sounds are kinda rude.

31. I don't smuggle in anything. Here's why.
You can bitch and yell and moan all you want about high concession prices, but the facts are that the movie theaters themselves see precious little out of the Ticket Price you pay to see the movie. Nearly all of it goes to the movie studios and the distributors of the films.

The concession money is what pays the employees, the electric bill, etc.

Most of the theater chains ride the ragged edge of bankruptcy* on a semi-regular basis, and if they didn't make money on the concessions, there'd be nowhere to see the movies I enjoy on the big screen, the way they're supposed to be seen.

You want movies in the theaters? Pay to play.

*I have a close relative in the bankruptcy business, so I've heard the stories.

32. I smuggle vodka, but I buy a soda to pour it in!
So even though I'm smuggling, I'm not cheating the theatre. AND, if I didn't bring little bottles of vodka, I wouldn't even be buying a coke.
