PMS - What The Hell Is It?
I've been doing the monthly thing with a vengeance for over 27 years now; in fact, I've had a deliberate 3rd degree burn applied to the entire inside of my uterus to slow it down. I know what cramps are (and how!) and I know the meaning of cool terms like "menorrhagia," "anemia" and "mittelschmerz" but what the hell is PMS? Before my periods, even after the 'burning,' all I ever got was increased migraines and hypoglycemia (and now I take Topamax, and I all I get now is unstable hypoglycemia). Is *that* PMS, or is there more to it, like crying and shit?

8. I meant it in a flattering way
I mean that post just warped my brain. A burn on your uterus? That you had done before you ever got your periods? To slow it down? All those words... hypofuckinsomething... And all in the context of asking the question "what is PMS?"... while saying that you've been having your periods for 27 years.

Yo, you can't say that shit ain't strange. :D

14. More Than You Ever Wanted To Know
Menorrhagia: unusually heavy menstrual flow, often causing anemia

Anemia: Low red blood cell count, commonly caused by excessive bleeding (there are many other causes as well)

Endometrial ablation: burning away of the lining of the uterus to end menstruation, usually to correct menorrhagia

Hypoglycemia: low blood glucose

Mittelschmerz: German for "middle pain," referring to one-sided abdominal pain felt by many women about half-way through their 28-day cycle as the ovum ruptures the membrane of the oviduct

"Syndrome": Medicalese for "may or may not be a real thing, but we can make money off it"

3. PMS is when some women act, once a month,
like a lot of men act, all the time!

9. It's funny
but what's even funnier is that nobody minds the joke when it's in this direction. Switch genders, and oh, the indignation! :)

10. I Tried To Make It Right
Personally, I find the idea that something that happens to just about every woman at some point in her life makes her irrational or something as distasteful as the 'cute' man-bashing.

22. I mind - however, please note the number of jokes on this thread
that refer to women vs. the one joke that refers to men as well as the number of people who do indeed mind and are responding to your post but the lack of response to anyone "minding" the jokes about women. Not sure the facts really support your assertion at this point anyway.

and in that sense, my comment's pretty indisputable.

But as it has been explained to me and as I have seen its effects I would say it is about like Tripping, only backwards.

13. Basically,
the theory is that mood changes can occur when shortly before a womans period, the level of the hormone progesterone dramatically drops.

15. Doesn't It Increase?
Progesterone is the hormone responsible for cramping. That's why NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxyn are so effective in treating them.

24. Doubled Over In Pain? What?
I don't know what the fuck PMS is supposed to be, so I don't know what you mean. If the time right before my period is the "real me," that means the "essense" of me is blind in one eye from a migraine and fainting from extremely low blood glucose. Is that what you meant?

26. No, I was refering to the wild mood swings...
...but I really don't care if you understood the "humor" behind it or not. My wife did, and that's all I really care about.

What are they?

Did you just demonstrate one with your two posts, and was that on purpose?
