Thoughts? Ideas? We're in Montana, so we're thinking WARM and Beaches. Not too secluded, but not big city either.

1. Go to Puerta Vallarta
There are many places in Mexico to go, but I am still partial to Puerta Vallarta...lots of WONDERFUL restaurants, plenty to see and it will be AFTER the hurricane season is over...

4. Thanks, NSMA
That's my concern - the weather patterns that time of year. I'm so unfamiliar with them in other parts of the hemisphere. I know my mom has been to Puerta Vallarta a few times, but that was is March. I'll look into it.

2. honeymoon
Since I am in the travel business, I like the Cayman Islands
it is nothing but relaxation

Or a cruise to the Western Caribbean

Or Maui staying at the Kaanapali shores

Or Fiji, Nandi, staying in a bungalow,, this one is expensive though

How are these places in November? I've been to Gran Cayman once, but it was in January. Thanks for the info!

the Pacific Northwest (rain blizzards setting in).

Just about any place in the tropics would be nice.

I really liked Kauai. It has varied scenery (tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest, coastal desert, farmland, and sheer cliffs dropping straight into the ocean), and a much more laid-back atmosphere than Waikiki or a lot of the other well-known parts of Hawaii.

7. Yeah, the tropics are what we're thinking too.
But that leaves a lot of choices available. I don't know about Pacific v. Atlantic, especially what kind of weather can be expected in each in November. Not to mention, I know nothing about the more exotic locations.
Thanks,
KJ

Matcom and I go to an adults only (no funny business) resort that is all inclusive. Check out palace resorts www.palaceresorts.com and look up the Aventura Spa resort. It is an hour south of Cancun. Excellent place!! We have gone four years in a row.

Thanks! What time of year do you and M usually go?
I was in Cancun once, as well. It was really pretty, and we also saw some ruins and went snorkeling. The diversity of things to do was great. I will definitely look into it.

is when we go. The one thing you might want to check into if you decide to go the carribean route, is when does hurricane season end? Hurricanes don't usually effect the Myan Riviera. This resort is awesome. If you are serious, Matcom can even give you the name of the person we buy thru. Good luck!

but actually around Halloween is the peak of the fall color change in the DC area, with nice weather, usually. November is warm in LA, too.

Wondeful beaches but plenty of non-beach activities nearby such as the Rainforests and a few volcanos

This is the hotel where we stayed. It was not all-inclusive, which was good because we wanted a chance to enjoy other restaurants in the area. But it did include the most incredible breakfast buffet!

They call Rio "Manhattan with a bikini." Most excellent beaches I've ever seen, plus great music, theatre, and caipirinhas. It is however quite expensive.

You can get some of the same effect in other parts of the country, and it being November, that will be their spring, so you could go to their south and still be very warm and comfortable. I haven't been there myself, but people speak glowingly of Santa Caterina.

35. Yeah, but
you should also note that if you're not in a city of reasonable size, or a known tourist destination (e.g. Iguacu Falls), you won't be able to get by on English. They tell me this is less of a problem in Santa Caterina, which is another reason to recommend it.

I've been to Rio, Sao Paolo (business hub, biggest city in South America), Vitoria (thriving port 6 hrs north of Rio, nothing special about it, but I have friends there), Salvador (capital of Bahia, home of Caetano Veloso and other major Brazilian singer/songwriters, site of old slave markets, and more Bob Marley tee-shirts than even Cambridge MA), Recife (old and poor city in the Northeast, with an interesting arts scene in nearby Olinda), Belem (also old and poor, great colonial architecture, Amazon river delta wildlife), and a couple other parts.

The trick is finding the right balance between having lots of time to relax and do nothing, and having things around us to see, do, explore, etc.

39. Depends on what you want
You can do a day of duty free shopping on St Thomas(ugh). Take a day trip to BVI, the Baths no Virgin Gorda are nice. There is a place in St. Johns that will teach newbies Scuba and take you out on a dive. Day sails. Lots of hiking. Last time we went we took a guided day hike with a park ranger to one of the abandonded sugar plantations then swam out to a boat for the trip back.
