Key West Police Arrest Drunk Driver Who Though He Was In NYC
<snip>

KEY WEST, Fla. -- Key West Police say a man charged with DUI thought he was in the Big Apple.

When a police officer asked what city he was in, 18-year-old Thomas Platt answered, "New York."

Officials say the teen drove his car onto the Sunset Pier, dragging a broken light pole 25 feet up Duval Street behind his car. He then made a left turn onto a wooden dock walkway.

Witnesses say Platt drove back down the way he came, hit two light poles, a wooden bench, some bushes and a sign.

The officer who stopped Platt says the teen had slurred speech and fumbled for his papers. The driver was arrested after he failed a sobriety test. He's charged with DUI, careless driving and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, estimated at about $10,000.

THE THINGS YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE DRINKING
© 1996 by Jim Morris

She’s a beauty, but she’s got rabies.
Hey Buddy, where’d you get your date?
I think you’d better get back to the zoo
Before it gets too late.
I’m sorry, Mr. Weightlifter Man;
I guess I have no defense.
It’s just the things you do when you’re drinking.
Oh, they seem to make so much sense.

I’m ready. Hey, let’s get a tattoo.
I want a great big anchor on my chest.
Or maybe that heart that says I Love Mary.
Oh, I think I like that one the best.
I’m sorry, Linda.
I guess I have no defense.
It’s just the things you do when you’re drinking.
Oh, they seem to make so much sense.

BRIDGE:

Now we’ve been having ourselves one hell of a night.
We’ve been drinking since early this morning.
That tequila, rum, wine and beer all mixed up together
Sort of sneaks up without much warning.
And I know I really should go home;
Hell, It’s quarter till three.
Do another shot of Wild Turkey?
Well now, that makes sense to me.

Hey baby, can I come over?
Yeah, I know it’s four–thirty.
But hey, just think of it as a date for tonight,
And I’m stopping by just a little bit early, yeah.
I’m sorry Mr. Jones – I didn’t catch your voice.
I guess I have no defense.
It’s just the things that you do when you’re drinking.
Oh, they seem to make so much sense.

BRIDGE:

Pull over! Walk a straight line!
Now what kind of game is this?
I wasn’t weaving; I was trying to dodge an armadillo back there,
And I bet his armadillo family is sure glad I missed.
Well, I’m sorry Mr. Ociffer Man;
I guess I have no defense.
It’s just the things that you do when you’re drinking.
Oh, they seem to make so much sense.
Yeah, it’s just the things that you do when you’re drinking, oh.
They seem to make so much sense.

6. Did he also think he was CNN anchor Jack Cafferty?
CNN anchor Jack Cafferty will pay a $250 fine and perform 70 hours of community service after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Cafferty had been charged with the traffic infraction, along with misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, assault and harassment, after police said he knocked a man off a bike with his Cadillac on May 14.

A traffic officer and about five pedestrians ran after Cafferty's car to stop him after the accident, but Cafferty drove through at least two red lights and around other vehicles without stopping, according to a police complaint.

Cafferty was dragging the man's bike underneath his car, police said.
