And the winner of American Idol is.........
Edited on Wed May-25-05 09:29 PM by socalover
Fox, the religious right, and country music wins American Idol!

Sorry folks, I am not a fan of this show but the fact that country singer Carrie won American Idol is another win for the right. She sang Hannity's theme song, "Let Freedom Ring" in the finale last night, I knew the right wing would vote her the winner. All this while Bo was the clear favorite for weeks.

7. Ya think?
All this from people who don't know shit about Carrie Underwood. "Independence Day" is NOT Hannity's song. It's got nothing to do with 'murkin values and fightin' ragheads. I think most people can't get past the title or the Hannity connection.

This girl did The Dixie Chicks "Sin Wagon" on FAUX for christ's sake.

"Independence Day" is a song
orginially sang from Martina McBride. It's about a woman who was being abused by her husband and she sent her daughter off to the county fair and while she was gone she burnt the house down with her and her husband inside because there was no other way out and the daughter ended up going to the county home's. It's a beautiful song. You can read the lyrics at http://www.letssingit.com

Carrie's fan base is teenaged girls with cell phone. I know one who voted for her 40 times. It had nothing to do with politics.

22. Exactly
They vote for them about a hundred times each. I remember when Clay was on there I would try to vote for him but could never get through and kept trying all three hours. Then I tried Ruben's line and got through simply about three times.

musician and more talented. However, Carrie fit in better with the way the show is showcased. You reading way to much into this piece of fluff TV though.

8. I really don't think its fixed or political- it probably depends more on
millions of teenage boys and girls hitting redial. I liked Bo better, but I liked Clay Aiken better too- and more people know who he is two years later than the guy who actually won. The show gives some wannabes high visibility, it doesn't promote a political message.

Carrie was made to sing country music, and that style of music doesn't often carry a liberal message.

25. Right
Carrie's easy to market. She's very likeable personality wise, has a nice voice and can sing any type of song given to her. Mr. Bice is great for being a serious musician. My Mom really liked Bo. You're right about Ruben. You hardly see anything out of him. Clay has gone on a national tour at least two/three times and Ruben just goes to Alabama. He came here for a show called "Bessie Smith Strut" and that was about it. I read that he's supposed to have a gospel album out. Heh. I remember there were rumors of pot being on his bus and all that. Ruben wasn't that vocal of a person either. I thought his stuff was very boring. He had one single called "Sorry 2004." It was so boring and stupid.

10. Taking Michael Moore's advice
I dabble in 'current culture' and Idol is my foray into Americana.

I actually thought tonight's show was very 'well produced,' shall we say? It was a choice between country/rock Alabama and country/religious Oklahoma. It seemed obvious that Carrie had the Jesusland vote locked. You have to admit, she does have good looks and a good voice?

The shocking thing is how many people voted this year. I would only hope that many people would care so much about their government to get educated and then vote.

Maybe the elections and the functions of our government should be produced as a reality/contest program?

27. The vote count means shit
The vote count means shit. The thing to know about this is they vote multiple times. As I mentioned in an earlier post I used to be on a few yahoogroups for AI and people would brag they voted a whole hour and got around 100-200 votes through for their favorite person and maybe ten-twenty votes for someone else they liked. They say "I'll vote for this one if you vote for that one" and so they do that. It's mostly pre-teen or teenagers who vote for these people and 70-85% or so of them are girls. I used to be a fan of the show but I just watch the finale now days to see who wins and any special guests on there and all that. They also at least twice got the phone numbers wrong. The first time they did they got the numbers and people mixed up and the second time they kept giving out Carrie Underwood's number for everybody.

Even though I wanted Bo to win I knew Carrie would. Just like it's been said...she reaches out to that young demographic who speed dial for the person they like best.

I really don't think politics has anything to do with it.

Yeah, it's fluff TV and it's one of the few escapes I take away from the real world.

15. I remember reading an interview from Simon
and they asked him who he thought would win. And he said Carrie Underwood. Why? The republicans will vote for her. She's a very conservative person and sweet and can appeal to people which I'm sure makes easy marketing. Her type of country is the pop/country ordeal. It's not even new country like Faith Hill, Shania Twain etc. My Mom was hoping for Bice and I liked him pretty well even if I didn't see the whole season I saw parts of it. Two-three times they got the phone numbers wrong for people. :eyes: People vote a hundred times for someone. I used to be on yahoogroup mailing lists and some people would brag they voted for this person or that person 100-200 times so when they tell you a certain number of voters called in usually it's the same person multiple times. Last season Diana DeGarmo was clearly the better vocalist (she could really sing) and then the year before that Clay Aiken was clearly the better vocalist. Kelly Clarkson wasn't bad and she was better than the second runner up so that was right. What happens with American Idol is in the beginning they pick out their favorite person and vote that person through whether they sucked or not. The year before last there was these two country singers on there (one had a lil more rock in them) and they really sucked but they lasted a long way (to the top eight or so). Then the guy was in the top four/five and he stayed around a good while when it was very clear he sucked those nights and should've gone long time ago but his fan base would vote for him thousands of times and would say "I'd vote for your person if you vote for my person." That's why I'm not really a fan of the show anymore. I, personally, like "Nashville Star" better because they're more professional about it and you can vote online on a website either a .com or a yahoo sponsered address.

33. They all have contracts more then likely
Edited on Wed May-25-05 10:50 PM by FreedomAngel82
They usually get contracts. There was one girl the first season who was in the top five who got a contract and she was on "Boston Public" as well (Tamyra Gray) and had a cd out earlier this year that wasn't bad. Another girl who was in the top three, Nikki McGibbin, got a contract with either RCA or Sony but she didn't like what they wanted to do with her (they wanted her to do country but she liked rock) so she was getting out of it last I heard. Bo is sure to get a contract if Clay Aiken and Diana DeGarmo did. Justin Guaraini (second place winner on the first season) did get a contract and did a corney musical movie with Kelly Clarkson but haven't heard anything else from him.

31. I think we can safely say this wasn't politically motivated
I liked both of these contestants and they both brought great talent to the table and you will find that they are both winners.
Carrie may be from Oklahoma but Bo is from Alabama.
I think we can take a draw on the red state angle.
Of interest is that last year the American Idol AND the Nashville Star was from Alabama.
This year a young blonde girl from Tennessee won Nashville Star and a young blonde girl from Oklahoma won Idol.
I liked Carrie. She seems like a genuinely nice girl.
I liked Bo, but I don't think he quite fit the Idol model.
I would buy both of their CD's though.

that song is not only the theme song to Hannity's Show. Many people like it as a song of empowerment for women.

Regardless, I think that they both were talented, and though I hoped Bo would win, I don't see how his Southern background is all that different than hers?

39. I'm actually happy that Carrie won.
Not because she was more talented. GAWD NO! Female country singers who can cover up their pitch problems by yodeling are a dime a dozen.

I'm happy because I think Bo has REAL talent, and he gets all the advantages and exposure that AI has to offer without being forced to record those nauseating, terrible, disgustingly trite GOD-AWFUL pieces of shit they pass off as songs that the winner of the contest is forced to record. Did you listen to the lyrics of those songs?! It was like they closed their eyes, opened up "1001 Cliched Lyrics," randomly pointed to different pages, and strung together whatever they found. I don't know which is worse, that "Angels Brought Me Here" piece of crap or "Inside Your Heaven." GACK.

Kind of a Southern rocker/country rock. Either one would have been a win for them if that is they way you want to look at it.

A lot of kids vote and vote and vote for the AI. I think they relate to Carrie better. I was rooting for Bo, but was not disappointed when Carrie won. They are both talented. Besides he got a car and sang with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not too shabby!
