After much soul searching,I've decided...
...that the worst part of living in the bible belt is that no good bands play big venues here.

The only act scheduled for the Mississippi Coliseum is frickin' Larry the Cable Guy.

When I was a teen/young adult, there was a different rock band in the coliseum every weekend. No one plays here now.

I can go to the House of Blues in New Orleans and see some good bands. But that's it. Sometimes the Coliseum on the Gulf Coast gets decent acts, but NOTHING is scheduled for this summer worth seeing.

You guys who have choices in concerts are so lucky. Nothing is going on here. :grr:

3. Not this summer.
Nothing worth seeing. Tom Jones is playing, and I might go see him, but I want to take McCall Jr. to see his first rock concert. The Black Crowes were on the Coast a couple of weekends ago...missed that. Now nothing else big is coming up. :(

2. Jesco White!
The Dancing Outlaw!

I've heard rumors that he's living in very dire straights these days. I don't know what's true and what's not, but Jesco White is clearly an American original.

5. Jesco is having hard times.
There are a couple of update pages on the internet. He's basically become a recluse, and Norma Jean is in a nursing home now.

It's really sad.

It was very sad. :(

7. In the late mid to late 80s...
I saw Cinderella, the Scorpions, Van Halen, DLR with Vai, Poison, Ratt...the list goes on....Oh, and I saw SRV in 90. No one plays the coliseum anymore. :(

9. Honey I KNOW!
We can go to Kansas City to hear good bands but even our state fair has announced they can no longer afford the big acts (they were mostly country anyway, not my cup o tea). I am on the programming committee for our orchestra and we are having our 60th year celebration next season. Some of the top line acts are 6 figures just to get them without their entourage. It is a sad thing but the tickets to the big names make it almost impossible anyway for anyone not in the upper income tier to go. Sad, what the hell is happening?

11. We recently saw Willie Nelson in Biloxi and The Black Crowes in
Gulfport. Try living in Mobile--NOBODY plays here!

14. I'm so damned jealous! I didn't realize the Crowes had been...
on the coast until last Friday. :grr:

Actually, New Orleans is much closer for me. At any rate, a concert equals a hotel stay, either way.

I'd love tho have seen Willie, too.

:hi:

We've been known to have a decent musical act or two come through town. :)

It's a nice thing. You miss the beach and pine trees, though.

Did you ever get out to Ship Island? It's gorgeous out there. Bluest water I've ever seen.

21. Yeah, I've got some warm, sunburned memories from there, too
When I go back home now we go over to Gulf Shores a lot, and eat at Lambert's in Foley. Might not now, of course, but when they get it livable again...

I miss the Coast. I still can't think of romance without imagining lying on a pier on a fall night.

22. That's so sweet.
We travel down to the coast several times a year. We stay at the Quality Inn, which is on the sand (don't have to walk across Beach Boulevard).

I'm getting a hankering to visit right now. Might have to go down this weekend. :D

23. I was planning the same thing, but unfortunately
I won't be able to. Friggin' job.

My parents still live there, as well as a lot of old friends. I go down for Mardi Gras, and a few other random times a year. Sigh... I'll make it sometime!

How far up do you live, that you only make it a few times a year?
