8. I'm suprised by those in the midwest who say
the last time they saw them was in 1975? :-)

I had them a week ago and I live in the midwest. Then I learned I have some allergies to legumes on Friday, including ranch beans. Bummer...

9. beans, beans, the musical fruit!
Edited on Wed May-25-05 02:12 AM by fleabert
I love beans. all different kinds of beans.

I had black beans yesterday, and ranch style last week. I like the green ones too, and the flat ones they call snow peas, but look like beans to me. soybeans are yummy too. refried beans with burnt onions are awesome.

*poot*

edit: ooooh, I just remembered a childhood fave, cold Pork-n-Beans! disgusting hot, but ohmygod so good cold! I didn't eat the little chunk of gross pork fat mixed in there, the dog got that tidbit.

14. and without all the taste!
just kidding, I have never had 'boston' baked beans, so they very well could be the exact same thing. ;-) something for me to get next time I go to the store. Now that i think about it, aren't boston baked beans white? Ranch style are definitely NOT white.

18. The "Boston" baked beans I've eaten aren't white.
Edited on Wed May-25-05 02:27 AM by Seabiscuit
Ranch style may just use some tex-mex sauce instead of the Boston style sauce.

Of course, if they're pinto beans, that is something very different.

19. found a pic, you are correct, but they are different...
Edited on Wed May-25-05 02:30 AM by fleabert
Made from beans (usually navy beans, but the type can vary) simmered for hours with salt pork and molasses, baked beans quickly became a staple.

I think navy beans and pinto beans are different, I will poke around a bit and find out.

edit: we are finding similar stuff at the same time!

21. Now, the baked beans my family made for picnics...
...were large, white navy beans in a tomato and brown sugar sauce. They were usually done in a casserole dish with slices of bacon on the top. They're really tasty, and sort of a nostalgic summer-picnic thing, but not authentic Boston baked beans.

Damn! Now I want some of those baked beans. I'm going to have to email my sister now. She makes the best!

20. I'll have to look for them in the supermarket, if I can find them...
...I can't believe I live in a city where I can find tom yum paste, vindaloo lamb, thai green curry stir fry, but no Ranch Style Beans. Buffalo is not exactly the most remote region in the world. Not in the springtime, at least!

22. Here's the deal
http://store1.yimg.com/I/foodlocker_1847_22465224

Ranch Style Beans are NOT barbecue baked beans. They are seasoned with paprika, onion, garlic, etc. . . . .

The call them "Western" flavor.

Although, Ranch Style now offers several styles (plain pinto, pinto with jalapeno slices, black beans, refried beans, and they are now coming out with a new baked beans).

They're appetite pleasin'.

23. They sound yummy...
...I'm a big legume fan. During my extended career as a grad student, it was more out of necessity than anything else. I've perfected my beans and rice recipes over much trial and error. You'd think I'd be so sick of beans and rice that I'd never want to see the dish again, but you become strangely accustomed to it, and actually crave beans and rice after awhile. I'll be actively searching out that appetite pleasin' black and yellow can!

30. I lived in Buffalo for about two years! I loved it!
I don't remember trying to find ranch style beans though, you might try the west side supermarkets...they always seemed to have different things than the regular spots.

I miss Buffalo, even the winters. Has it finally stopped snowing? My dh just hired someone from buffalo to work here, she is loving the weather! Say hello to Elmwood for me sometime. :-)

25. Ranch Style Beans, 3 for $1.00 this week at Scivalley's
WalleyMart is charging 52 cents each, up from 46-cents a week ago.

Ranch Style Beans are tasty, add some shredded cheese on top.

A Raman noodle type of consumable.
