whose dad was visiting yesterday and brought his german shepard, which attacked my cat on my back steps leading to a violent fight between me and the dog.

after climbing 30' up a tree to get my declawed cat, and a $170 trip to the vet we knocked on the door and gave them the bill. they aren't paying. why? because my cat went in their garage 4 months ago. and because my cat is outside. doesn't matter that the dog attacked the cat on the back step of my house, where the cat had been sunning himself for an hour. also doesn't matter that after the cat evaded the dog the dog went over and tried to get at my neighbors dogs through their fences. they know they are wrong, the dog dissappeared last night, and when confrontedt the dad never came outside, he shouted out arguments to his son from the corner of their living room and wouldn't come out to confront me. if he was so indignant, i imagine he would have faced his accusers instead of letting his son take the heat. as we left i said something to the effect of "now we know that we have bad neighbors who aren't responsible for their pets". the dad shouted out the window as we walked away "MY SON IS A GOOD NEIGHBOR!"

the worst part is that my neighbor is a local cop. i am reluctant to do anything because my family got in a feud with another local cop several years ago and it led to all sorts of problems and eventually cost my mom $3000 in legal expenses and a year of harrasment.

bottom line is that my neighbors no longer get any consideration, and any dogs in my yard are going to be dealt with as violent attackers. (this is because in 2 years 3 seperate dogs have attacked my cat in my yard, a boxer, a rotweiller, and now a german shepard).

16. Get your video camera out, and make sure they SEE you using it.

It's the only thing that always works. I've been having an ongoing battle with the "moto-heads" in our small town, and they learn to avoid my place because we ALWAYS call the cops on kids illegally riding on city streets, and we ALWAYS come out with the camera first thing.
It works even if you're not actually taking pictures of them.
