Is this a little pathetic, or am I a cynic?

HGTV has a show called "Party Girl". The premise is that people are just too busy to plan their own parties, so the "party girl" does everything for them. On the surface, it's not a bad idea, but tonight's show was just plain ODD (to me at least)..

The party was planned FOR and BY a yuppie businesswoman (late twentyish)for her own birthday party.. That actually seems kind of sad to me. Don't friends and family usually do this FOR them?/

This was a party in a rented Mexican Restaurant with over-the-top decorations and party favors for the "guest-yuppies..complete with a "specially-named-for-her" Beckerita drink.. (Obviously her name is Becker).. and of course there are Mariachis too..

She's even wearing a tiara ( to designate her as the "guest" of honor..

Something tells me that as a child her parents probably threw lavish birthday parties, and she just has not outgrown the habit..

If it had been a Cinco de Mayo, 4th of July, Christmas , New year's Eve Party it would not have seemed so odd..

1. Not my cuppa tea.
Throwing a birthday party is something that friends should do, ideally.. not something that one does for oneself.

But to each her own, I suppose.

2. Sounds like that...
My Sweet Sixteen or whatever. Stupid as sin show where thousands upon thousands of dollars were thrown away to fuel rich sixteen-year-olds deepest desires. Like an elephant... Stupid.

4. You're right, that is pathetic
I've never heard of a person throwing their own birthday party. Shows you how shallow yuppies are. Like we didn't know that already.

5. The tiara did it for me.. and each guest had to answer a questionnaire
about HER..to see who knew the most about her..I wonder if the Mariachis know "You're so vain"..
