I saw my Senator today
We went to a carnival on the grounds of the University of Chicago Laboratory School (Lab to the locals). While our son was jumping around in one of those big inflatable bouncy castles, my husband said, "Our senator is right behind us."

I looked around. "Dick Durbin? Where?"

"No, Barack Obama." That made more sense; this is his neighborhood.

I went up to him, shook his hand, and repeated the tale. "I'm the junior senator, I know," he laughed. I told him Illinois has the best Senate delegation and admonished him to do a good job.

So that's my celebrity sighting for the day. How was your day?

1. Nice score. Illinois does have two great Senators.
I saw my Senator today, but only in a movie:

About 15 years ago, I met the late Sen. Paul Simon of your state. He seemed like a good guy.
