Anyone here have experience with adult ADD?
I am going for a screening next week, and if it turns out I have ADD it would sure explain a lot about my life over the last 15 or so years.

2. Yep! Finally got meds for it. Changed my outlook in 3 days.
Now when I get off work, I don't have to sink into a crossword puzzle and procrastinate because life is too overwhelming. I have energy and stamina and focus to take on other projects. I'm amazed at the fog I was in. I think anti-depressants, which I will continue to take for life, exasperated it. :7 :hi: :woohoo:

15. I don't mind. I take Adderol (sp) But all the bottle says is:
Amphetamine Salts!!!!!! I guess adderal, adderol, (whatever) is the non-generic name. I took a test with my psychiatrist and she said it might help. Well, it has and quickly! I eased onto it just 2 1/2 mg at a time so I wouldn't feel jittery. Now I take 5mg at one time-she says I may end up taking 10 mg in the am and 10 mg late afternoon. I don't want to feel high! Just feel like myself and be able to drag myself off the chair and DO something. I am soooo much more focused and I feel normal. I highly recommend trying it. My friend told me about it and we describe the same inability to focus and get things going. It has helped her immensely (and she also lost a ton of weight. it is an appetite suppressant) :wow:

Ive heard about it.Glad to hear someone with some first hand experience.I gave up a few years ago because nothing worked.I tried ritalin and for the first couple of days and it worked great but then it stopped and I became very agitated.Ive tried others as well with similar results.

Now that I hear some success stories Im going to go back and try again. Many thanks.

7. What do you take?
I also frequently feel that life is just too overwhelming and I have to shut down by napping or engaging in some other non-productive distraction. I can't even think straight most of the time and I get very depressed when I feel like I am incapable of managing my own life.

18. I know....
I walk around KNOWING what all I have to do, but then usually end up doing something totally different....lol

Absolutely NO sense of time. If getting up and getting to work wasn't such a habit for me I don't think I could do that.

27. I am an engineer...
I love my job, and I know what I am doing. I communicate the engineering lingo without any problem.....I can't keep records or files for shit though.....rofl

In everyday conversation I totally suck.....my mind knows what I want to say, but the words just go out the window when I try to explain things......it's the most bizaar thing I have ever experienced...

32. I am currently wearing my ADD tee shirt
It says... "They say I have ADD, but they just don't understand. Oh, look a chicken!"

I take 80mg of Strattera and it has changed my life. Before I was the typical start and run type of housekeeper, worker, etc. I would squirt the soft scrub into the tub, get distracted and return three hours later to cement in the tub.

I also couldn't keep track of paperwork, etc. I really, really sucked at that. I am getting much better, but it is still a struggle.

Take heart in this though, there is a school of thought in the psychiatric world that says those with ADD have higher IQs to compensate. I think that is often true.

I am okay in everyday conversation, actually people think I am funny, but I don't have patience for stupid people. I just can't do the 'polite chit chat thing' with idiots.

39. I love it!
ROFLMAO........Saturday I sprayed my whole bathtub with Orange cleaner 5 different times! I did it the first time to let it soak for a little while before I cleaned it, but the other 4 times was because I forgot about it....plus I watched an episode of Bonanza in between times.....rofl. It was 9 PM that night before I finally scrubbed it, and that was only because my daughter was screaming that she had to take a shower....:)

It takes me ALL DAY LONG to clean my Kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom.

14. It's funny, but it's not- Ooooh, free kittens!
I sometimes feel like there's a radio station that's not tuned playing in my head. I tried Ritalin for awhile, but couldn't remember to take it on time. Guess that kind of defeats the purpose. Anyway, now I have lupus and have a shitload of meds to take, so the last thing I need to deal with is- Shit, I forgot I have to mail that letter.

29. I heard that radio, too, but it had too many commericals
and the guy who - what was that you just said? No, I really WAS listening, how am I supposed to remember if I took the pills that help me remember or not...Damn! Was that a Viper that just drove by? Whoa, I'm getting really behind on my work, but...never mind, gotta run down to the bus stop.

How did it get to be this late already? I haven't even gotten started on that other thing that I was going to start a couple of months ago, and look at the time. I was going to do that this morning, really I was determined too. Even left myself a note; I'd show it to you if I could find out where in the world the blasted thing disappeared to.

9. My friend's hubby has it.
I don't know if he has ever been diagnosed, but if he doesn't have it then I don't know who does. As a matter of fact, I think he has ADHD.

My hubby also has it, but he quit taking medication a few years back.

10. Wow! it's amazing how many people have it....
I have been overwhelemed with EVERYTHING for some time now..

I get feeling of pure dread if I have to do the simplest things like getting gas for my truck, cashing a check, going to the grocery store...

I just always thought everyone else felt the same way. I take blood pressure meds....wonder how ADD meds will effect me...
