58. gifts aren't taxed...see irs.gov
It is super unlikely that you are going to owe any gift tax for donating to DU. You are allowed to give $11,000 before you even have to fill out the gift tax form. And even then you don't actually owe tax on the gift -- you'd have to get up there into the six (or maybe it's seven) figures now.

Although I have to admit I would not mail $11,000 in an envelope either. When I was speaking of mailing anonymous gifts, I was thinking more along the lines of slipping an Andrew Jackson or a Ben Franklin into the envelope, perhaps even an Abe Lincoln if times were tight!

The receiver of a gift never owes any taxes anyway so it is not like DU is going to owe taxes on a gift.

I have a link to irs.gov for more information on gift tax:

http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=108139,00.html

If you are thinking you want a record of your donation for YOUR tax deduction, someone will correct me if I am wrong -- but I am pretty sure you can't deduct contributions to DU because they advocate for specific political candidates i.e. Democrats. This is the entire purpose of the site!

I'm just not seeing where taxes would be a concern unless you plan to give a way bigger gift than I understood and in that case, you can probably arrange to give anonymously with the help of your attorney.

70. ok got it it's a gag
There were no $35K bets made at roulette in Vegas in April. Didn't realize it was the same guy. Vegas is really nervous now, I'm a little surprised at how little action they tolerate. I could tell a (true) story here but won't bother because it's almost weirder than the fiction. Suffice it to say that Vegas is not in a mood to tolerate big action. They are not handling variance well at all at the moment.

that and $1.89 buys me a cup of coffee.

53. Damn...
if I had 300K I couldn't touch, I'd still donate for myself.

Wait a goddamn minute!! I don't have 3,000 I can touch. And still donated.

40. here's how to pay without revealing your identity
I mail cash to the mailing address with my alias signed at the bottom of the letter. When I am really energetic about not causing a hassle -- I know cash creates an accounting hassle sometimes -- then I buy a money order and just leave off the address and put a made-up name in the "from" column. People seem to be able to cash it OK, in any case, I've never had a complaint. So that is two ways to do it if you can afford a stamp and some stickers to make sure your envelope is well sealed.

I think the main thing with DU is they like to have all the donations counted up in a week, and the mail might not get there that fast. But you can still donate anonymously if you like.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

82. Well, OK, enough fun for tonight. I got my star. I'm happy.
I will never talk about my personal life anymore. It seems to disturb people a little. And then they gang up on me... Not nice. OK?

If by disturb, you mean, choke on the fumes of your overwhelming dump of BULLSHIT, then yes, you have disturbed me and many others :hi:
