Late May, I've lost the battle to not turn on the air conditioning.
Finally and at last.

But hey, late May is as late as I can remember us holding out. And we have it set to 80 degrees, so we aren't cranking it, but it was just getting unbearable in here, even with every ceiling fan on.

Welcome to summer---drippy popsicles, red-faced, wet-puppy smelling kids and $250 electric bills.

1. Me and my brother-in-law have an ongoing contest on air and heat
In the fall, I'm always asking my sister, "Has A turned the furnance on yet?" She'll say "No, he says he's not turning it on until Nov 1st". And then I'm like, "Damn, it's cold but if A isn't turning his on then either am I. I WILL outlast A this year! Bwhahh"

Or something like that.

Same thing in the spring. My bro-in-law will say he's not turning his on until June 1st but guess what? He works construction outside so he usually wimps out before me and turns on the air. And then I WIN!!!

10. That's a great motivator to save energy!
Wow! Cool :) Where in the midwest are you? We lived in Indiana, and man... the humidity, it will kill you.

11. I'm in Kansas
We got that humidity thing goin' on too. :)

I had to drive the last couple of summers without air in my car but this year I have a new car with fully functional air conditioning. So bring it on big bad hot summer...I'm ready this year!

5. I don't even think of this time of year as spring.
Spring was that two weeks back in March.

Spring's over for us.

3. Enjoy it while there's still oil....
....'cause (according to a lot of experts) we'll be fanning ourselves before too many more years.

6. I can handle that.

I'm actually quite tolerant of the heat. It's the cold I can't stand.

On edit: our power is 100% wind from a company that supplies that option. No coal or nuclear for us.

19. Ha! No, higher, actually.
They still have to use TXU's delivery system. It's just the source of energy that's different.

25. But it's a clean renewable source so that's alright
Should have known they'd find a way to charge for wind in Corporate American :)

15. AC!? Jesus Christ any place you have to run the AC in May isn't...
Edited on Wed May-18-05 08:16 PM by Redneck Socialist
fit for human habitation. I just turned the freakin' heat on. It's 50 degrees raining and damn cold here where I'm at.

Oh yeah, I was skimming your post and thought you wrote drippy testicles!!!! and said :wtf: until I stopped and read your post more closely.

Drippy popsicles, testicles, either way May is way to early for either one.

Edited for clarity.

20. I can't IMAGINE the heat on in May.
We turned it off sometime in February, I believe. Maybe early March?

22. February?! You sure wouldn't have to worry about your...
popsicles dripping if you did that here, because you'd be a popsicle yourself. And you don't even want to think about what it would do to your testicles...:scared: :P

18. I finally flipped mine on over the weekend
Though just for a few hours in the evenings until I go to bed. I suppose I could have toughed it out another week or two but jeez isn't it bad enough to be living through the last days of Babylon without sweating in the evenings too?

But the best thing I've done since I bought my house nine years ago was replace the A/C. I haven't had a bill hit $200 since AND I'm cool.

24. You're amazing for lasting this long
We've had to run our periodically since the end of March. Texas has got to be the only place where you have to run the heat in the morning, then switch to the A/C in the afternoon. :eyes:

26. Same here
We closed the windows last week when the heat hit the 90s and the breezes stopped. I keep the a/c at 80 during the day when I am here alone but drop it to 78 so hubby can sleep at night.
