Check out the ATM before using it-New Scam uncovered
ATM Scams Stealing from Consumers

snip:
Codarcea is allegeded of stealing at least $400,000 over the past two years, charges that he denies. But, in three easy steps, investigators say Codarcea, and others, cashed in.

Step No. 1 - police say, they would mount this fake "swiping" box on the door of a banks ATM machine area, which would be rigged to stay open.

"It's a recording device," Det. Blair says. "It records credit card numbers."

Step No. 2 - a small hidden camera was allegedly installed near the key pad and linked to a nearby laptop computer.

This made me realize that I don't cover the pad to hide the pin number as I enter it..do you any of you do that?

2. I .....unlike you other fools, have devised a very intelligent....
..way to make sure nobody wants my debit card or pin numbers.

I only keep about 18 dollars in my account.
..And Not by choice! :)

3. I haven't used an ATM in years.
A lot of people get robbed at ATMs, especially where I live. If I need cash I just get cash back with my debit card when I go shopping.

4. because I'm in a rural area, I use small town
bank ATM's..just never thought about covering the pad cause there's never anyone around.

We usually do the cash back thing when we're in an unfamiliar area. Just feels safer that way.

5. I got robbed at ATM recently
We needed some quick cash so we used an ATM not-of-our-bank. I agreed to pay the $1.50 transaction fee. A few days later we looked at our statement to find that in addition to the $1.50, OUR bank tacked on an additional $3 for using a not-of-our-bank ATM.

DAMMIT!

6. That part of it does suck.
My wife works at a bank and hates it when I use another ATM than her banks.

7. This sounds like Wells Fargo
Change banks. My new bank not only does not charge you for using other's ATMs, but credits back their charge. (In CA The Mechanics Bank, but there are others that do the same thing.)

9. Yeah...
That can happen too. I was actually talking about people being robbed by a criminal with gun or something. It happens a lot at the ATMs around here. It happens mostly at night, but I've heard of a few cases in which this actually occured during the day.

8. Usually I do cover the pad, yes.
Is this really new? I thought we'd heard of this scam being pulled before...
