Ahhh. There's nothing quite like spring in Texas
When the heat still hasn't kicked in for the year. Picked these lovelies this afternoon up the road a pace where the land has been disturbed for a new supermarket. There were acres and acres of 'em, too. But, alas, looks like the air conditioner will be chugging away by week's end... :-(

2. In a "normal" year, yeah
But it's been so mild here in the Austin area that we've set some kind of personal record for lack of heating or cooling days (and open windows) in a row.

4. I know!

Isn't it wonderful! I'm actually looking forward to seeing my electricity bill this month. :bounce:

That's THE cutest smilie, by the way.

The mild weather has really helped out all the wildflowers, too. Your arrangement is so beautiful, I'm going to have to pick some flowers tomorrow now, too. :hi:

9. Arrangement?
Got out of the truck, whacked 'em off with a swiss army knife and plopped in a vase back home! Just seemed Texas style, somehow. Best wildflower season I've seen in 14 years down here. :D

10. I recently moved to Texas. ..Another Blue in a Red State!! haaaaaaaa
Maybe more dems should move here and repopulate *'s state. What a hoot thst'd be.
We could eventually RENAME the George Bush Highway..
I'd call it the "Texas Has Been Liberated Highway"..

Oh to dream..
Back on topic, The flowers are truely beautiful..I am a florist and the photo is straight out of a design magazine.
Award winning.
Haven't lived through a hot summer yet, but I did spend July in Midland/Odesssa area back in 1993. It was hot but I still loved it more than the Dakotas where I grew up.
This past winter, the January temps were -60 degrees with the wind...and -40 without..At that point there really is no difference.
Texas heat last about 3 or 4 months. The Northern Plains are cold for about 8 months.
That's why I'm not there.
Moving to Texas, I felt kinda like I was thumbing my nose at Bush, HA!!Another Dem Liberal has infiltrated Bush and Delay's back yard..Ha..Take That!! I WILL even VOTE in your next State and Local elections. Slowly and silently your red state may turn a lovely shade of violet, then a color as beautiful as your Texas Blue Bonnets.

I saw an anti-bush bumper sticker driving on 377 the other day. I think it was my welcoming committee. I knew I was among friends.

May the true God, the God of mercy and peace, generosity and forgiveness lay His Holy Hands upon our hurt and struggling America. Our great planet Earth.
Amen

Thanks for the "rant" space DU.

Though spring, summer, and fall take place within 4 months, it is a beautiful place..I have to give it that much...
but I cannot live through another winter..ever again.

And I feel pretty smug moving to George's State.
In your face george! HAAAAAAA

12. Welcome to Texas
I'm a Blue in this Red state also, but I'm discovering more and more.

I've been here just over 5 years and it has been a great spring. I'll take 3 months of summer over 5 months of snow and sleet anytime. I call July and August my "Texas Winter". I just stay inside. I had to do that when it was 20 degrees up north. And you don't have to shovel heat.

Nice to know I'm not the only "Texan"on DU.

I believe there are many great anti-* people living in this lovely State.
I love Ann Richards. I'd enjoy hearing her speak. Maybe now that I'm closer..
I've only been here a month.
Hi Y'all (lol),
I'm learning the lingo.

interchange on the north side.

But you work in Coppell? That would be a sucky commute.

24. Yellowdogintexas You are close..
I'm near Heritage Trace Pkwy & Beach ..The commute sucks but I love the job. I'll be moving soon.
Keep in touch..maybe we should meet fo rcoffee??
I'd like to have an occasional gathering of two or three, or as many local DUers as we can find.
Keep it casual though. Might be nice in the event "terrorists" (ahem)suddenly zap the entire internet system..

My mom told me today she read an article in Newsweek about KKKarl Rove. He said he'd like to see a one party system in the USA. Sounds like a fascist, talks like a fascist..
They could not love Democracy any less.

Don't quote me on Rove's exact words..as this is hearsay..I will check out the article on KKKarl though..

15. Unfortunately I live in southeast Texas
Even when the heat hasn't quite kicked in, there's always the humidity to contend with!

16. I could only tolerate that
If I lived oceanfront on the coast. That kind of humidity can be so oppressive, it's not even pleasant at night!

But the plants in my yard are reblooming, although they're not as showy as the first flush.

I'm in Austin (pretty much south-central) and have made many drives over the past month or so and can honestly say this is one of the best in my memory.
