Sirius had chemotherapy #5 yesterday.
He is doing so well! Before chemo #4 three weeks ago they took a series of x-rays and ultra sounds. They have declared the lung cancer virtually gone. The prostate tumor is still there, although slightly smaller. Yesterday was the last session with adriamycin.

I'll take him back in a month for another series of x-rays and ultrasounds. Then a decision will be made as whether to continue chemotherapy with another drug, or - if things look real good - to back off chemo for a while.

Remember that on Valentine's day the veterinary oncologist gave him 4 to 8 weeks to live. She also told me then that once a dog gets lung cancer, it seldom responds to chemo. She loves being wrong on this one (bless her heart)! I love it that Sirius seems to feel better than he has in three years. When we got back to the mountain house yesterday after his 6 hours in chemotherapy and two hour car ride, Sirius was out chasing young Nick-Nick around the yard!

Sweet Sirius

Young Nick-Nick

2. Thanks for the update
A friend of mine was expecting her dog to die of cancer -- non-typical melanoma (in his mouth). He was given a few weeks to live. Seven months later -- the doc can't find any trace of cancer.

Miracles do happen.

3. I love hearing good news like this..
Thanks for updating us DT. It's amazing the amount of energy they have when they're feeling good isn't it?

Give the poochie a good ear scratch from me please! Tell him I'm happy for him and for you too.
