35. McCartney is the one who is correct; WE are out of touch.
I know, it's not April 1st.

Still, I wish it was - it might explain the asinine ticket price.

Man, that is extraordinarily high. Is his bodyguard that expensive? Do 13 year old girls want 65 year old sausage? :scared:

Between them and Clear Channel(which has tied up nearly all the good venues), music fans don't stand a chance.

13. right, and if Sir Paul didn't charge the venue a million bucks a night
or so, plus expenses, it would be cheaper.

look, they charge these prices because people pay them.

14. When I was going to "Dead" shows just before Jerry died,
Edited on Mon May-16-05 04:31 PM by mcscajun
we were still paying about $30 a head, regardless of venue.

I've only paid exorbitant prices twice in my life: Once I paid $90 a ticket to see Eric Clapton @ Madison Square Garden, and once I paid nearly that to see both Billy Joel and Elton John at the same venue.

I wouldn't pay $30 to go see Paul McCartney, though. :)

10. ah, fuck McCartney...
I got to see Ringo a couple of years ago in Boston, for under $100. I never liked Paul anyway. John and Ringo are my favorites. Plus it was great to take my Mom she had always wanted to see the Beatles live, (hippie at heart), but Dad never would have taken her. So, atleast she got to see one of them, before they're all dead.

Can't really fault him for that. There are plenty of people who will pay that much to be up front and close to a major Beatle.

12. Oh, I know....
There's a thread gasping over the $400 tickets to see the Stones. I was just offering some perspective. I'm going to see the Stones. I won't be seeing McCartney. However, there's a rumored concert featuring both which could be interesting. I'm sure Cream would be happy to be the opening act.

IF they were playing this side of the big pond. :sigh:

Alas, neither is the case... :sigh:

31. I was at Altamont, too
Actually, I had a great time. Didn't know about all the problems until the next day. Rumors spread across the crowd like waves, but, even though I was quite close to the stage, I didn't see any actual violence.

32. Oh, I think I remember seeing you there.
:D. We were way back and didn't know what was going on either, but were kind of curious with all the calls from the stage for people to calm down. I kind of remember that starting during Jefferson Airplane, fairly early in the day. Otherwise, it WAS a great time ... what I can remember of it through the LSD and Red Mountain.

33. That was you???
Damn - you've not aged a day!

I was on acid, too. I could take handfuls of the stuff (ever do a Mach 10?) and still be in complete control. Never had a bum trip, freakout, nervous breakdown, impulse to "fly" off a building or anything even close. And I was 15!

There were obvious problems of various types but I never dreamed it was anything even remotely close to what had actually happened. As for the Airplane, we just thought Balin was stoned, drunk or something - a very common problem with performers during that era. We thought the fitful stops & starts had something to do with the sound system. And we just assumed that all the calls for calming down were for people fighting (not literally!) for space at the stage. Did you get the 'Gimme Shelter' dvd? I can see myself in several different shots, though I'll never point myself out to friends; I was wearing a poncho! Of course, the dvd outtake of the Stones doing 'Little Queenie' is worth more than the price of the entire disc, alone.

If I knew what I know now, I'd still have gone.

I could tell you some stories, but this is a public forum, after all. Don't want to give up TOO much info. But I'm with you -- never a bad trip ... but lots and lots of really pretty colors, amazing geometrics, and some really astonishing insights. And I do believe it slowed down the aging process, because you're right -- I haven't aged a day. :hippie:

18. Look at it this way
Let's say you are in an industry where you can earn $3000 a week because there are plenty of employers who will pay you that much.

Would you then tell your boss, "I don't need $3000 a week to live. You can just pay me $1500 a week. That will be enough."

Of course you wouldn't. And you shouldn't expect McCartney to lower his prices if people are willing to pay that much, either.

B-)

I'm seeing him in Phoenix for just over $50 per seat. Granted, they're not the best seats in the building or anything, but it's not like there's football stadiums selling out nationwide for $3,000 per ticket.

P.S. - I'm taking my mom - big Beatles fan . . . .

26. This is why I don't go to concerts anymore!
All the best shows I have seen averaged $20 a ticket. These were for REAL talented artists in the PRIME of their careers playing in small to moderate sized venues and NO corporate sponsorship!

These aging sellout multimillionaires like McCartney, Rolling Stones, are not worth the price of the paper the tickets are on. They were great back in their day but now they're just embarrassing themselves by trying to pretend they have anything left to contribute.

30. Good point
I'm not a McCartney fan, but I do believe he go screwed by Jackson - who used his friendship with McCartney to take advantage of him.

However, it seems I heard something about Sony having first grab at those publishing rights. Probably because Jackson (allegedly) owes Sony millions for the production costs of his last CD. Which flopped in a major way for someone of Jackson's marketability.

37. Isn't this a ticket broker? Surely this is not what
Madison Square Garden charged but rather what the ticket broker thinks he can get for them. I am sure the tix were pricey but the face value is probably far less than $3k.
