39. Legal battles (long version inside)...

I have a final meeting today with my lawyer in preparation for a custody hearing on Thursday. Today, my current husband and my 2 kids that I had with the ex have to meet with my lawyer to review everything in preparation for Thursday.

Currently, we have joint physical and legal custody and I am in contempt because I have not let him see the kids (except with supervision) since last October.

This should have all been a piece of cake... My ex is horribly abusive, physically and mentally. I experienced the abuse first hand, so did the girlfriend he had after we split up and his current estranged wife. The last 2 times he abused his wife, my kids were there. He also verbally abused the kids numerous times. There are 2 restraining orders out against him, protecting his estranged wife and her 14 yr old son. He was charged with 2nd degree assault, but got probation because it was a first offense (I was too afraid to press charges). He was sentenced to 1 yr seeing a parole officer, however. He also abuses drugs, is a racist and homophobe.

Unfortunately, his estranged wife, who was supposed to testify about everything that went on in that household and why he should not be allowed to be with the kids unsupervised, has left the state, knowing that she was supposed to testify at my hearing. I understand she is afraid of him and wants to get away from him, but she's an adult, and I'm trying to protect 2 kids.

So, it becomes his word against me and he is from a powerful, wealthy family that includes multiple lawyers and judges.

I'm just dreading the whole thing.
