Who here owned a VW Beetle & for how long?
I had a Superbeetle as my personal car for 9 years!! A 1974 green one. Except I bought it in 1987. I sold it for 1000 more than I paid for it and it is still on the road!

2. 1963 candy apple red convertible with white interior
black rag top with the wooden framed rear window, wide white walls and the vw hub caps.

I had it for just over 2 years, sold it when I had to raise the down payment on the house I was living in, they would have sold it out from under me.

Beloved bug or mortgage??? Mortgage won.

3. I had a beauty for about 2 months
Don't remember the year. It was a regular bug. White with cool tires and a sunroof.

I had to give it back to my ex.

4. I had a great 1969, bought it for $100 in the seventies
and drove it from Pennsylvania to Texas and back twice. The second time, it broke a valve rocker arm in Tennessee and made it the rest of the way to Philly on three cylinders.

I then gave it to my brother to drive to college (40-mile round trip), which it managed for another 9 months or so before the shifter got jammed in second gear.

And after all that, he was surprised that "I wasn't mad that he'd broken my car."

I eneded up trading it for new clutch, installed, for my Volvo. A good deal from beginning to end.

7. Had many:
1967 Squareback. Not a beetle, really, but the same basic engine, just squished. Gave it away, only to have to work on it for the friend I gave it to many many times.
1968 Beetle. White. Grew up in that car, in some ways. Got seduced away by a rosso-orancia Fiat convertable. Gave the beetle away twice. Again, mostly had to work on it for my friends. The first guy trashed it, but the second one truly loved it and I got to spend a lot of time in it when I saw him.
Wrote a novel about a beetle.

8. I had a 73
It was blue. I had it for a few years until I was coming home from a gig and hit the curb. I ended up breaking a strut, and it wasn't the same after I replaced it.
I sold it to a friend of mine. I also had a 71, but never really go tit running right.

9. I had two at different times.
They were both quite old when I got them, and I didn't drive them long.

To tell you the truth I don't remember much about them except that you had to push down on the stick to get into reverse.

They certainly weren't the worst cars I ever owned. The worst car I ever owned was a 1993 Mercury Sable which I bought new. I will never own another Ford product, not even a Volvo (I'm sure Ford's ruined that company!). I would probably give Volkswagen another try, although I know some people unhappy with Passats.
