Rank the Star Wars movies from favorite to least favorite
How would you rank the 5 films of the Star Wars franchise in terms of quality, enjoyment, etc.

For me it's:

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) A New Hope
3) Return of the Jedi
4) Attack of the Clones
5) The Phantom Menace

25. Ditto
I really can't wait for the new one. I still have a bunch of old action figures, and a millenium falcon. Maybe, I should sell them.

9. My ranking:
Edited on Sun May-15-05 06:36 PM by brainshrub
1) Return of the Jedi
2) Empire Strikes Back
3) A New Hope
4) Attack of the Clones
-5) The Phantom Menace. (The negative symbol is not an typo.)

I have no hope for the next SW movie. Here are a few reviews:

Rolling Stone:

Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews.

Heralded for its savagery (my God, it's rated PG-13), the film follows Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen -- to merely call him wooden is an affront to puppets everywhere) as he loses his limbs and his conscience and takes on the evil mantle of Darth Vader. But thematic darkness is no excuse for dimness in all other departments, except the visual.

http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/movie/_/id/6140458?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=double1&rnd=1116178893641&has-player=true&version=6.0.12.872
...

Villiage Voice:

No doubt the most expensive stoner film in history, the alleged final installment of George Lucas's elongated adolescence turns out to be not so much a movie as a relentlessly vivid parade of visually overstuffed set pieces, a digital-age Doré Bible illustrating defining moments in the soap-operatic Star Wars mythos.

###

I've read other reviews that are not nearly as flattering.

ON EDIT: I bet Revenge of the Sith will be an Ewok musical.

21. Ha, wow. I love this quote from the Village Voice:
"Post–Jar Jar, our expectations have sunk so low that now fans will celebrate a film just because it doesn't completely suck."

:D so true

12. The Ewoks didn't bother me at the time
Because I was in 3rd grade when I saw Jedi in the theatre.

Now had I been a 20-something, I probably would have felt differently.

13. I think that was my problem
I just got too old for as silly as that got (felt campy), yet not old enough to take it for what it was and enjoy it.

I don't think again in my life will there be a movie, at least for me and possibly for any child living in my lifetime, like the originial Star Wars. Empire might have been better if you started watching them all at once, but IV will always be far above anything I ever saw in the movies.

19. A New Hope: All the others tie for last place
A New Hope

All the others tie for last place. Good movies. Adequate films, but none of them match in pacing, action, or enjoyment a little eleven year old, straw-haired boy saw one early summer afternoon a long time ago in a memory far, far away...

Caveat: I admit that Star Wars (or as you kids call it, A New Hope) has two of the worst acted lines in cinema history--

HAN: What's that droid carrying? What's so important?

LUKE (at his whiny best) ...But I was going into Toshi Station to pick up some power converters.

27. I feel like I should have ranked it higher than third, because
I was so mesmerized by the story when I saw it (I was 11 in 1977, and I saw it in the theater).

But, dang! I really, really liked Empire and Jedi.

1. A New Hope
2. Empire
3. Jedi
4. Clones
5. Phantom Menace...not even Liam Neeson could save that one, although I thought the dual sided light saber was cool. The kid who played Anakin could not act his way out of a paper bag.

32. My list is the only accurate one
:P

1. The Empire Strikes Back
1. A New Hope (tied for first)
2. Attack Of The Clones (yep, it's better than the detractors say - because it's just hip to beat up on the prequels)
3. Return Of The Jedi
4. The Phantom Menace (again, not as bad as the haters claim, but being the worst Star Wars film had to fall to one of them, and may this be it, because I have a good feeling about Revenge Of The Sith.)

Edited on Mon May-16-05 12:13 AM by Bride of Cthulhu
1) Empire Strikes Back (Gen. Veers - handsome and a great officer,Capt. Needa - just plain cute) downside Yoda - yuk

2) The Phantom Menace (Darth Maul - just plain sexy) downside
Jar Jar

3) Attack of the Clones (Jedi Master Eeth Koth - yum) downside
too much mush

4) A New Hope (lots of action, fun) downside whiny farm boys,
arrogant smugglers, annoying princesses

5) Return of the Jedi downside the Empire looses, ewoks
