1. Beautiful!
Thanks for those photos. My mother has hummers every spring/early summer, and we loved to watch them feeding when I was a kid. :hi:

2. My neighbor had a bright blue...
hummer that came to his feeder last summer, and I've never seen one that color here in the Northeast. Would you know what specie it was?

5. Mine are finally here.
A little late this year, which surprised me. In June, I have to keep 3 quart sized feeders refilled on a daily basis. I must have hundreds of the little marvels by now. When friends come out from the city they're both delighted and horrified. Horrified by all the lightning speed winged hypodermic needles flying all over the place. I love to watch them duck and weave as the hummers go about their business. The big event is always filling the feeders, taking them out and just standing there for a minute while I get covered in humming birds.

Is that an Oriole feeder? I have Orioles, too, but they won't use their feeders, only the humming bird feeders. I had to quit using any hummer feeder with a large, removable bee guard. The orioles rip them off and toss them away.

6. We have a couple of Ruby Throated Hummers
who jealously gaurd one of our feeders. The sit on a nearby Pecan limb (or should I sa "twig") and defy all comers bringing a literal interpretation to the term "buzz off."

Go to a local Wild Bird store for info on other feeders, or check out eNature.com. You can also slice oranges in half for the orioles.

8. The Orioles won't touch the oranges!
I've been trying that for years. Oranges, grape jelly, their own feeders (3 different types). So, I've just given up and use 3 (going up to 4 this year) Hummingbird feeders.

There is always some kind of territorial war going on with the feeders. The only exception is in the evening when they're really packing it in for the long night ahead. That's when I'll see all 8 ports occupied with desperate, democratic hummers.
