High School Car Washes: Charitable Fundraiser or Teenage Sex Romp?
An expose:
Driving around any mid-size town on a Saturday you will inevitably see High School students standing on sidewalks of major thoroughfares promoting a school car wash fundraiser. Often times these kids are dressed provocatively with young ladies wearing bikini tops and young gentlemen wearing shorts with their shirts off. So, are these kids using their flesh as advertising or are they merely wearing the appropriate attire for washing ones car? Are they exploring their sexuality in a time honored tradition? What do you think?

3. Why do you think that?
Seriously, we were driving by a charitable car wash today and my friend turns to me and says "You know, that is why the Muslim world hates us" and I said what do you mean? And she said "Because we let women run around like that." She is no prude either.

5. I Trust People To Decide For Themselves ...
Some Muslims in the world hate us. "Because we let women run around like that" is the excuse for hating us not the reason.

Regardless, I see nothing wrong in people enjoying themselves. It is their right and my pleasure. It is freedom.

Freedom is frightening to some. Not to me. And I expect to be banned and this thread(t) to be locked.

It's the car washes.

You're onto something here... The next step in the war against terrorism: close high school car washes, or at least make all them kids die from heat exhaustion.

2. Clearly, they are doing both
Raising money with a little skin, it is a time honored 'Murkin tradition, after all. Would those guys stay after the first half, were their team losing irrevocably, if not for the beer and cheerleaders? It's only been in recent decades that cars have NOT been sold by draping some impossibly sexy woman across the hood.

Was it really Darwin who coined the phrase, SEX SELLS?

11. In a lot of countries it is inappropriate to wear shorts.
In the tropics for instance you will rarely see men wearing shorts for it is seen as juvenile. Also in other countries it is considered offensive to wear "beach attire" away from the beach.

15. And?
We're not in other countries...we're in America.

In other countries it's ok to stone a girl for showing part of her leg, that doesn't make it right...nor something we should do in America.

I'm not offended at the sight of skin and I'm sure as hell not going to ask women OR men to cover up when they're out at the beach. Life is too short to heed these stupid rules. If people want to wear shorts and bathing suits while washing a car...more power to them!

I didn't see any sex going on in that photo...no crotch eating, anal slamming or hair pulling. To me it looks like good ol' clean, and yes pun intended, fun.

I think as a society we're all getting too uptight over trivial matters. Sex in movies, girls in bathing suits on the store magazine racks.....

I honestly believe it's time we bring back Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Oh oh
Wee-ell-now!

Relax don’t do it
When you want to go to it
Relax don’t do it
When you want to come
Relax don’t do it
When you want to come
When you want to come

Relax don’t do it
When you want to to go to it
Relax don’t do it
When you want to come
Relax don’t do it
When you want to suck it to it
Relax don’t do it
When you want to come
Come-oh oh oh

But shoot it in the right direction
Make making it your intention-ooh yeah
Live those dreams
Scheme those schemes
Got to hit me
Hit me
Hit me with those laser beams

I’m coming
I’m coming-yeah

Relax don’t do it
When you want to go to it
Relax don’t do it
When you want to come

Relax don’t do it
When you want to suck it to it
Relax don’t do it (love)
When you want to come
When you want to come
When you want to come
Come-huh

Get it up
The scene of love
Oh feel it

Relax relax relax
Higher higher relax

Now’s the time, it’s party time

Hey

Ok, maybe not the best song to quote when talking about sex romp.....but take his advice...relax and come. You'll feel a lot better.

But whatever. At least if this were done at my high school, I'd be let off the hook due to my big butt. I see only the skinny kids are allowed to do the car washing (at least according to your photos).

And if "the Muslim world hates us" because we don't legislate prudery (per your later post, and is a flawed premise anyway), then I for one am happy to be hated.

14. I think the bigger outrage is...
that students have to do fundraisers to pay for their school activities. The Al Franken show had an educator from California on his show this past week and she said it perfectly: "education should be treated like a failed missile system".

I only participated in a car wash fundraiser once when I was in high school. I wore denim overalls over my bathing suit and the majority of girls there also had clothes on over their bathing suits because we weren't very happy with our bodies.

I can't speak for other women, but my teenage years consisted of me wanting to feel sexy and beautiful but never achieving that feeling. My body image was WAY too bad to view my participation in a car wash as a sex romp. Others may have thought that when looking at me, but I certainly never came to that conclusion.

18. I don't agree
While I do agree far too much tax money is spent on asinine projects like missle shields, I think that fundraisers and other after school activities are good for kids. They teach work ethic, they keep kids out of trouble, and allow the kids to particpiate in their own programs. Besides, I did some of these things when I was younger and they were fun, a chance to hang out with your friends and do something other than smoke reefer

What is totally wrong is to charge students a hefty fee to even
participate in student activiies.
Taxes used to and should be covering these things.

30. I graduated in 2003, and I had to pay fees for some of my classes.
$12 for art class (for supplies like paper, pencils, brushes, etc.), $60 for chorus (for the dress and the music), and $40 for theatre (for the costume and the set). Now, the latter two did involve after school activities, but art class didn't; there was an additional fee of $11 to join art club.

31. Many schools ARE starting to charge activity fees, though
in the $30-50 range each semester. I have friends who are paying these for their children, and if memory serves - though I could be wrong - it might even be, for some, a separate charge for each activity (that is, one for band, one for football, one for basketball, etc.)

For those with a number of kids in school at one time, it's quite a burden. And for those who are quite poor.

I didn't realize this was such a touchy subject. I guess it touches on issues like freedom of expression and sexuality that may rub some people the wrong way. And then my statement about Muslims didn't really help, which my friend said and I tend to agree with. Muslim countries call us "the great Satan" Why? I believe part of it is they think that we are morally bankrupt. However some people chose to take my post as an admonishment for returning women's dress codes in this country back to the Victorian era, which I was not trying to do at all.

54. Um
Well, in the last picture I bet those girls are all a part of swim team, because they're wearing matching suits. and I bet they're raising money for *gasp* their swim team. My soccer team had a carwash and we wore jerseys and our bathing suits.

What else would you wash a car in? A floor length dress? :eyes:

70. Oh ... I 'get the point', alright ....
Edited on Sat May-14-05 07:42 PM by Trajan
Perhaps YOU arent getting the point ? ..

>ALL 'muslims hate us' comments are WAY too broad ... 'ALL' muslims DONT hate us ... some do, many dont .. Therefore, the premise of your statement is false ...

>The pictures you have chosen to show are not, in fact, salacious or lewd, by 'our standards' ... Those are NOT bikinis, they are one piece suits with an open back: hardly harlot fashions ...

>'Some' muslims hate us ... 'Some' hindus hate us ... 'Some' Bahai's hate us ... 'Some' christians hate us ... 'Some' muslims love us ... 'Some' hindus love us ... 'Some' Bahai's love us ... 'Some' christians love us ....

I would venture to guess tht MOST people are too busy trying to survive to spend alot of time 'hating' vast groups of people .... You present a crass, simplistic, and narrow-minded vision of 'people' and their feelings ...

> Last but not least: Freedom ....

I love america .. NOT because it wins wars .. NOT because citizens get rich .. NOT because church meets on sundays ...

I love it because I am FREE from the influence of misguided moralists who wish to control the natural behaviors of human beings everywhere ... male, female, gay, straight ...

I am FREE .... especially from worrying about what some extremist theocrat of ANY religion, be it muslim, hindu, jewish OR christian, might think, say, do, imply, or thunder ...

That, unfortunately, is changing here in the US .. but that is another subject ....

Summary: you pose a question based on a false premise conjured by a simplistic 'us versus them' worldview using images that really have nothing to do with the actual 'question' ...

I get the point, alright ... Oh yeah ....

71. If that works for you.
I'm just trying to get people to think. I did ask that at the end of the post. I didn't realize I would strike such a nerve. I thought it was light hearted, I guess when I start pointing out cultural distinctions between the Americans and Moslems it turned into a socio/political discussion, but I really didn't expect to get attacked and be labeled a puritanical moralist. I probably should have posted this in GD. For that, I apologize to the denizens of the Lounge.

73. This is OUTRAGEOUS! This MUST be STOPPED!
And if elected I promise to promote a Culture of the Fully Clothed!

We must put an end to this new generation of bright-eyed pink pleated vixens devoid of any type of moral compass. I simply will not stand for having our female youth soaping up their young hairless nubile bodies and slip sliding all over the hood of my Lincoln Navigator! Did I mention my car is black? That's right, that means it's Interracial Car Washing! Just sick. Dear god, think of the hymen! It's simply outrageous. Where are the parents? This is absurd, and absolutely inexcusable.

...

Leave the shirtless boys though.
