Have you ever posted on a sports forum?
If you think you've seen one too many flames at DU, you aint seen nothing until you've been involved in one of the many sports forums out there. Flaming is a way of life with so many of them. Some of the comments ranged from being bazarre...to outright funny...to completely ignorant...to downright nasty and mean.

I used to spend a lot of time posting on a couple of them, but found I ended up wasting too much time getting involved in flames and ending up almost hating the team that I loved because of it!

The biggest assholes, of course, were the neo-cons, who always had to interject their political and religious beliefs, even though talking religion and politics on a sports board was usually against the rules. I used to enjoy taking those particular imbeciles on. Damn, they were too easy. Then it got to be too time consuming...and self-consuming, too.

1. I did once
During baseball's spring meeting a few years ago, I said that Bud Selig had just proposed that when a home run had been hit, the player would then just head to the bench instead of trotting around the bases. This in an effort to shorten the games since they were starting to get way too long.

Well, that pissed off quite a few people. :)

2. My GOD!!! A bit tangential, but that image conjured up something
...in my head. Two team of overweight guys, The McDonalds VS the Burger Kings, who have been partaking to the extent that it is too difficult to get around those bases....

Great idea, Bud Selig...NOT!

3. There Is a Neo-Con Asshole On My Favorite Sports Board...
who is like the nasty chick in the movie "Mean Girls." He even has a royal court of popular kids who terrorize the board and shut down debate. Even though they actually hate the guy and are angling to be the leader of the cool kids clique. For the most part they do keep the political talk on the off topic board. They do manage to bring their political philosophies into the sports realm, however. I dropped my membership for a while because I was sick and tired of the BS. Still, the premium board is the absoulute best source for recruiting info, so I added it back. I'm a bit of a recruiting junkie.

4. Yeah, they tend to be real bullies, and it's amazing how much control
they exert over a sports board and how many sheep they get to follow them.

5. Well...The Board Administrator Lets It Happen...
and I actually like the guy. These jerks have become his friends. The guys actually come off like the are defending the board from negative posters. Don't get me wrong there are some guys on the board that are just never happy and will go out of their way to rain on the parade. Still, the clique shuts down alot of legitimate debate that I would like to see explored.

8. Same with the board I used to post on
The administrator, who at face value seemed reasonable and fair, became best friends with the biggest asshole bully-of-the-board, who was also a neo-con imbecile as it turns out. He even let the bully become his chief moderator. I gotta admit, I used to love standing up to the bully and putting him to shame, although it got me in hot water more than once. LOL
