...I feel cheated.
Why? A series finale to a Star Trek show and almost any show is supposed to be a culmination of what the show was trying to accomplish. I felt that The Next Generation, DS9 and even Voyager series finales accomplished this. Now don't get me wrong. I like Riker and Troi and I like TNG. But I don't like that they made what was supposed to be the culmination of events for Enterprise take a back seat to a Next Generation issue that if you have seen that show, you already saw it resolved. It would have been nice if they could have found a better way to connect Enterprise with TNG or another Star Trek show. The holodeck thing might not have been such a bad idea in a different context. Johnathan and Marina were good in this episode, as were the Enterprise cast, but this was just not right. The problem is that the actors on Enterprise, Backula, Trineer, Blalock etc are great actors. But for 3 years they were victims of bad writing. But I love this season of the show. It was great. I loved seeing those bridges get built between Enterprise and the rest of Trek. But they were done a disservice once again by being relegated to the back seat of their own series finale. The famous Archer speech was never made. Even if this was a 2 hour episode with more of these critical moments, everything else being equal, would have been a vast improvement for the episode. Terra Prime would have been a better series finale. But when I saw Tucker crying with T'Pol and Phlox crying earlier, it gave me the impression that the actors were crying because they felt bad about seeing their show end.
The thing that makes me sad is that Enterprise had so much potential that was wasted during the first three seasons. Then the fourth season came around and I finally saw this show come out of the doldrums and it became something I wanted to watch for the first time since Deep Space Nine ended. Then UPN cancelled it. Ok, so it wasn't the best show or even the best Star Trek. It is still better than almost all the other crap on UPN. God, during commercials, I had to see an ad for that stupid Brittany Spears reality show. Britany you are rich. You have made us suffer with your inane crap long enough. Leave us alone.
But I am fucking sick of Berman and Braga. I think UPN has to be the worst network ever. Sorry Riker and Troi. Good performance, but this was not your show. In another context, it would have been a lot better for you to cross over onto Enterprise, but not this one. To the cast of Enterprise. You desereved so much better. To suffer through bad writing in the earlier seasons, finally hit your stride, have your show unceremoniously cancelled and be relegated to the background of your own series finale is not cool. If you are upset, I wouldn't blame you. I would be too. The only thing really good about this episode is the montage of the three Enterprises at the end. May Star Trek come back better than ever a few years down the road.
