GOOD DAY
Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Ahmed Abdalla, Director and Board Member,Transparency International ,Kenya. I got your email address from the web directory so I decided to contact you.

# Web directory? What web directory? Oh, you mean THE web directory! OK.

We are interested in diverting some funds currently floating in the suspense account of the federal pay office to your account as soon as possible.

# Floating funds is a hassle, epsecially when they're sloshing around in the office, being in the way all the time. I got a similar problem with software cd's and paper.

Source of the funds are:

During the Arap Moi's government, government’s officials awarded contracts to their own companies, these contracts were grossly over invoiced. Now the present government set up contract review panel to settle those owed outstanding amount. My colleagues and I have identified a huge amount totaling US$ 370m (Three hundred and seventy million us dollars) oversea

# I sure would like to get my hands at those. But listen, your colleagues are running their own scheme on this. I got an email that's just identical to this a week ago. I don't remember the specifics, but the amount in question was even higher. You should probably check that they don't hold you out on some of the money.

We would want US$43.8m (Forty three million Eight Hundred Thousand) dollars out this money oversea transferred to your account because we are not eligible to operate foreign account, and I have been mandated to search for a partner abroad. We really want this transfer made as soon as possible before the government, who have started refunding money from Moi's foreign accounts track this money. We will be offering 20% for your assistance.

# Dream on, buddy. I sneer at a mere 40 mill these days. Here's a deal; we split 80/40. 80 percent for me, forty percent for you. The rest I will keep for transaction costs.

If you would want to proceed with this transaction please reply with your name and phone number to(medalla123@netscape.net) and if you do not accept my offer please treat with utmost confidentiality.

# OK.

For more information check and browse carefully all the links in the website below.

Best Regards,

Ahmed Abdalla,

Director & Board Member, Transparency International,

Kenya.

4. That's true, I think
But these should be pretty well known by now, I guess.

Note how he uses the BBC-link to 'verify' his message. Pretty thin evidence, though.

15. I wonder what happens if one actually replies to spam?
And I don't mean spamscam like this, but the usual offers of, say, lower mortgage. Does the reply email work, for instance?
I have never replied to spam, because that confirms that your email is active.

But most of the email is now so contorted to avoid spam filters that it's nearly unreadable, and it all seems so senseless?

Look at this, a spam mail I actually saved:
-----------------
Subject: cheergirl6969 would like to say hi ovals

I mean, huh? What's the fewkin point in sending emails like this?

11. That's a cool site!
Who's running it? I remember a case where some journalist answered the mails, and outed the scheme. Is it the same guy, I wonder?

I agree that this scamming should be to obvious for most people, but then there are also people that answer spam emails ;-)
