Olympics hero in drugs row

By Patrick Sawyer, Evening Standard
13 May 2005

Olympics star Mark Lewis-Francis tested positive for cannabis and has been stripped of a medal, it was announced today.

But the sprinter was spared a two-year ban after claiming that he inadvertently inhaled the drug by passive smoking.

The test came after the 22-year-old won silver in the European indoor championships in Madrid in March. He was given a public warning and forfeits the medal won in the Spanish capital.

Lewis-Francis said: "I do not smoke cannabis. My only explanation is that I may, without realising it, have been in the presence of people who were smoking cannabis and that I passively inhaled their smoke.

3. Pretty hard to be "in the presence of people who were>
smoking cannabis" without knowing it. Pretty distinctive smell.

And inhaling it passively in the amounts it would require to fail a test? Pull the other one, mate.

4. WTF do they test for cannabis for?
Maybe somebody can clue me in. I suppose the US had a lot to do with the Olympic Committee demonizing pot.

Assholes. Do they test for alcohol use too?

5. Why was this put in the Lounge?
Seems like LBN to me.

Is drug policy considered a lounge topic only? Just curious.
