LOTR Fans: Extended DVD set - which extras should I watch?
Yes, I was crazy enough to buy the three extended versions of the LOTR movies this weekend.

There is so much material! How do you know which features to watch? Which are the best ones to start with?

1. Cast commentary
Dominic Moynahan and Billy Boyd are too funny.

2. Select the "Play All" options in the "Extras" disks...
MOST of the features will play. You can hit the "Skip" button if you find one segment boring.

3. Ya know, I never watch extras.
Most of the crap they put on it, I don't care about. I bought the EE's only for the extra footage.

4. If you like horses, there's a great mini-doc on ROTK...
...I liked all the extras on all the movies, though. One thing, they were very honest in these docs and Christopher Lee got to really bitch about how he was left out of the third one. Seemed kind of a prima donna, but it did hammer home the point that not everyone was happy.

6. Have you seen the extended version? They include it in that...
...personally, I don't think it added much. Then again, I'm not Chris Lee!!!!!!!!

8. The part called "Land of the Horse Lords"?
I'm not particularly "horsy" but that part became a favorite. And it further increased my admiration for Viggo Mortensen.

12. I'd be interested to know your take...the books don't have a final
showdown between Gandalf and Saurumon (sp?)--S. just sort of goes his own way, with no more power.

7. All of them
You've got hours and hours of weekend-killing entertainment there. I enjoyed all of extras and documentaries, from location scouting, to props, to special effects. I think I've watched the whole series with all the commentaries except one. You'll be ready for a LOTR break before long.

Just when the weather turns nice, finally. I might have to figure out a way to watch TV outdoors. :silly:
