Sometimes people baffle me
I know I post things about my roomies often.... they really are great, I just vent here when I'm pissed.

But, listen to this... our house gets hot. And every time it does, they go and see if the furnance needs to be turned down. The thermostat is set to turn the furnace on at 68.... right now it's about 75 in the house... hence the furnace ain't on. So what do they do, despite the numerous times I've explained the futility of it, they go and turn the thermostat down to like 50 as if THAT'S gonna magically cool the house down.

yeesh.... :eyes:

1. Same reasoning as thinking
that pushing the elevator button four or five times when it's already illuminated will make it get there faster. We've all seen that one...

3. It does. In a building that's got multiple elevators, each press is
registered so the software dispatches an elevator to that floor in a higher priority.

6. Wow. If so, that's cool
Of course people still think it works even if there's only one elevator.

4. Just like people thinking...
that instead of cooking their tv dinner at 500 degrees for 10 minutes in the oven is going to be the same as cooking it at the correct temp for the correct time. That baffles me, too..

8. my wife did that a couple months ago...
she came in from a run, and was feeling warm, so she turned the thermostat down...(we have radiator heat, and therefore no central air).
i didn't know that she had done that, and she forgot- until the next morning when i woke up freaking out about why it was 62 degrees in the house, thinking the furnace is broken...It's worse because we rent out the upstairs unit, and ours is the only thermostat for the entire building- and there's a law as to how warm the rental unit has to be.

i had to give my wife a quick re-briefing on how radiators work- and no, turning down the thermostat isn't going lower the temp(well- not unless you open the doors and windows)
btw- i always sleep with a window open- so that helped us cool off all that much faster that night.
and the upstairs unit never got cold, anyway.
