Seriously. The ceremony was only an hour, but the stuff AFTER the ceremony lasted ten hours.

8. A live traditional Scottish dance band.
And they were quite good, I think, although I don't have much basis to judge on.

10. An old friend.
Since they listed it in the New York freakin Times I don't think they'll mind if I post it here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/08/fashion/weddings/08math.html?

They got married in the chapel at Columbia University. It was a beautiful traditional Episcopalian ceremony.

17. Let's see.

After the ceremony they had the receiving line in the adjoining garden. Champers and finger sandwiches. Then there was the bagpipe processional down Amsterdam avenue. Followed by an exibition of Morris dancing in the garden. Followed by an hour of group songs and performances by some of the friends of the couple. Then dinner. Salmon and roasted potatoes and salad and veggies. The wine flowed freely. Then the toasts and the cutting of the cake. Carrot cake. YUM. Then the traditional dancing. Some Scottish, some English, some Contra.

Ooo, they had the COOLEST souvenirs -- little glasses with their name and date etched on it. Totally neat idea to give to the guests -- they will be useful as bud vases or something like that. Brilliant idea.

Did I mention that the entire wedding party was wearing black and white costumes from the Edwardian era? I have no doubt this is the best-done wedding I will EVER attend. Simply amazing.

21. Mmmmm....it sounds delicious. And fun!
Were the finger sandwiches like those that one might have served for tea in the Edwardian days?

23. Ooo, I don't know.
Salmon, vegetarian, and pimento cheese, so probably not. Did they have pimento cheese in the Edwardian era? :silly:

22. Oh! sorry. I'll check.

(checking the dance card). Ok, I lied. It wasn't a full band, just a fiddle player and a piano player.

The dances were Ceilidh, Contra, English and Scottish. I'm not a Scottish dancer but I did go learn some Contra so I could dance, and that came in handy. I think I'll try to learn more Contra and Scottish. They taught most of the easy dances: Christchurch Bells, Jefferson and Liberty, and so on. It was sooooo much fun! Even the ones that I wasn't up to were fun to watch. Are you into Scottish dance?

25. You'll enjoy it.
Yes. Mostly Scottish now but I'm approaching the age where English is easier on the body. Had to give up Contra a long time ago, partly for health reasons, partly I prefer the mental involvement of Scottish and English.

I encourage you to try them all and stay with the one that fits you best. Great people, great exercise, and they'll give you an introduction to people almost anywhere in the world. Enjoy, -tg
