Paulding County, west of Atlanta. John Linder country, but really nice, affordable places. This, of course, is assuming that Ms Uly's job holds up long enough to get the loan.

I have to admit to being a little twitchy about the prospect.

1. I'm assuming you live closer in, but the place is really small
I live 30 miles from Washington, D.C. and live in a tiny condo that is about 855 sq ft. This was the best I could afford, living alone and now the prices for these cheap little condos are outrageous at $180-200K. So I've made a ridiculous amount of equity to afford myself refinancing this year. I'm down to a 170K 30 year loan with a fixed 5.5 rating.

It's ridiculous that this condo costs this much! Yeah I love it because it is charming and is in a nice wooded neighborhood, but go figure - $180K is what it's worth -- and others like it are going for $185-200K? I know , I read the Coldwell Banker site.

What I'm saying here is if it were me and you could satisfy yourself with staying where you are (if you don't have a good loan refinance and include your credit card bills) I would because real estate prices are sky high right now. But I don't know your area.

2. it's the right thing for us to move.
We're inside the I-285 perimeter now, so our little 1000 square foot bungalow that we bought nine years ago for just under $60k is now under contract for $116,500. That's going to allow us to get out of all our credit card debt (no more money to Citibank) and put down 20% on a much larger house.

7. I love VA
I had training recently in Alexandria--such a beautiful area with lots of activity. I love the DC area.

3. It'll be good for you
ANY city can make you crazy. I think the change of pace will do you and MrsUly a world of good. :-)

5. I think so, too.
This house, through no fault of its own, almost stinks of "adoption failure" at this point. It's funny, though - there are two rhododendrons and one rose in the yard that have sat looking scared for about five years and that are now blooming for the first time. I think they're saluting us. :D

We'd be moving to a pretty red area, if we get the place we're looking at. In 14 years here, I've never lived outside of the 4th and 5th congressional districts (John Lewis and Cynthia McKinney). Thus the twitchiness.

4. Good luck, ulysses
I know that moving is a big deal. I just did it last year. But it's probably a little more difficult to move somewhere that is totally different from what you are used to. I just moved from one suburb to another.

6. thanks.
I've always had a sort of faux "rural dream" in the back of my mind, and while this certainly isn't that, we will probably have deer in the back yard. I'm looking forward to our cat's first encounter with wildlife larger than a squirrel. :7
