So long, DU!
For the next week, that is! I've got an interview for a paralegal position at a legal services agency in Rapid City, South Dakota, this Wednesday afternoon. I'll be leaving on the bus tomorrow morning, arriving in Rapid City Monday evening. I'll be leaving Saturday morning, returning to Cleveland Sunday night. I haven't ridden the bus for over twenty years, so it should be very interesting. I would have flown, but the goddamn plane ticket would have been a thousand bucks due to the short notice (I just got the letter notifying me of the interview this past Tuesday); my car also needs a little work before driving it 1,500 miles.

This means I probably won't be on the internet for the next week. So, if ya got anything to say to me before that, you'd better say it now, lol. I'm so excited. I love the Black Hills, which is where Rapid City is right near, and have always wanted to live near there. Since I'll have some free time before and after the interview, I'll also be able to drive around the Black Hills a little. It'll be weird, because I've never been out there this time of year and I've never been out there by myself, it's always been on a family vacation. So you guys are rid of me for a week at least!

8. Thanks, everyone!
I'm nervous, but I got a good portfolio of my work samples, so hopefully that'll make a good impression.

6. Ah, bus rides
I once took a bus from Watsonville, California to my hometown in Vermont - I'd quit smoking 12 years before but that damn bus ride was so long, and there were so many strange people and events on it, that round about Cleveland, I grabbed some poor slob and demanded a cigarette. ~sigh~ Took me another two years to quit again.

Good luck on the job interview! :hi:

7. Yes, the bus ride should, indeed,
be interesting. I bought a little cassete player with some headphones so I can listen to all my tapes on the very long rides, hopefully that'll make the time pass faster. I probably won't get any sleep for those two days, though.

13. just got back last night....

It was actually a lot of fun, although I don't usually like living in hotel rooms and all the disruption that entails. The workshop was fun, though. Got to break free of academe for a few days and work with real foresters and regulatory folks. I was one of the invited nerds.

Funniest moment was Friday, when we were wrapping up the field sessions. I was asked to stay at one of the sites while the workshop participants rotated through in van loads. Since they were shuttling, they left all their "stuff" in the van while we were in the woods, but I'd been dropped off by the first van and would be picked up by the last, so I had to keep my stuff with me. I looked pretty ridiculous walking around in the woods with a brief case!

Have a great trip and best of luck with the interview! :hi:

15. In the woods with a briefcase,
lol, that'd be a sight to see! Glad things went well. I'll keep you posted on everything, I probably won't be at a computer again until next Sunday night, though.

17. Well, I've finally finished all of
my packing and organizing; I thought I'd never be done! Now I'm too psyched to sleep. That sucks since I probably won't get much sleep on the 36-hour bus ride! Oh well, I'll get there Monday night and my interview isn't until Wednesday afternoon, so that's more than enough time to catch up. I still can't believe I'm actually going out there for an interview and that I actually have a chance for a job in the area I've always wanted to live in!

20. My advice is to rent a car
It will only cost a bit more than the bus ticket (if the miles are free as some rental companies allow) and the much needed comfort you will get from having more control on your trip will be well worth it when you have the interview. Plus you get to stop and look at our beautiful country! Of course you need to have the time....I love driving all over the US...oh fuck it....I just love all worldwide travel in general.

PM me if you have any legal questions.

I think Oklahoma stole all of their original statutes from SD.
