I just experienced TRUE hell
i spent THREE hours getting a box spring and mattress up this spiral staircase.

i scratched the new walls, i lost my temper, i relocated a few discs in my back, and i tore my mattress to hell.

i got creative, and you'd never believe how i finally got them up there -- so i won't bother to explain.

i learned two very important lessons though -- never move somewhere with a spiral staircase -- and next time, hire a moving company.

i've got the huge antique sleigh bed to get up there tomorrow...

perhaps i'll call a friend -- or just burn the bed.

1. How DID you do it?
I hate getting things upstairs, makes you never want to move one thing ever again in your life.

A spiral staircase must have been awful, so little space to move.

4. a combination of
my new couch, a plastic chair, a swift climb and some real desperate creativity.

oh, and i didn't mention that this new place has no elevator, and i'm on the 2nd floor --

lesson #3 learned -- never move somewhere without an elevator

that's probably what i would have attempted... but it's up pretty frickin high, so i don't even know if that would have worked...

i don't even want to imagine how they got the tub up there.

10. You have too much fucking room!
Why not give some money to charity.

All you need is a flat and you didn't get that so stop bitchin', will you?

11. Rent or borrow a ladder
and get some rope. Use the ladder (and a friend) to guide the pieces of the bed and haul it to the top with the rope.

Good luck.

I live in a homemade house and there is a spot on the stairs with a 5' head clearance - but the staircase is open on the side. Had to practically fold our queen sized mattress in half to get it up the stairs. Good thing we don't own a box spring.

13. comrade!
I did the same thin in a loft in December by myself. Not a spiral staircase, but one with a stupid right-angle in the middle, and with a king-size mattress. fell asleep on it as soon as it was in the bed frame.
scratched up the walls and everything.

But you're in now, so fuck them all.
