Cat Thread! On 1-10 scale (10 is highest) how finicky is/are your cat(s)?
Melanie (she's on the right) has got to be a 10; Scarlet is about a 5.

1. Our three cats run the gamut.

Calis, our big, black British Shorthair / Siamese mix, will eat damn near anything. He was my wife's cat before I met her and he's about 4 now. Even a piece of jalapeno! He's a total Garfield. A 1.

Shakey, our orange tabby stray who adopted us a couple years ago, has the compulsive urge to put his face in everything we're eating and smell it. If he likes it, he may take a piece we give him and lick it to death then walk away without actually eating it. Yesterday he actually did eat a morsel of chicken we gave him so maybe he's finally getting the idea. He's also obsessive about water. He has to lick the water dripping from our fingers when we take showers, and he's been known to drag the water bowl halfway across the kitchen. Why, we have no idea. I give him a 7.

Marmalade, my orange and white tabby who I've had since she was a stray adolescent of about 8 months and is now going on 6, LOVES starches. Potatoes, bread and corn make her go nuts. She also likes chicken and is on me like white on rice when I am eating shrimp. Most other foods are a total turn-off though. I give her a 5.

By the way, your cats look beautiful. But seeing as how they're medium to longhair I gotta wonder how you cope with their shedding. All three of ours are shorthair and they drive us nuts with loose fur.

2. Thanks--this is the first pix I've ever posted of them...
...I don't mind the shedding. I am constantly picking up ahir here and there. What bothers me is that Scarlet goes sniffing for clumps of hair, and if she gets it before I do, she eats it, and then promptly throws up!

I've been brushing them a lot lately (they don't look real brushed in the photo) and that helps--Melanie especially will get matted in the summer.:hi:

3. Very pretty kitties :)
Well, of my two, Quinn is the most finicky. If he doesn't like it, not only will he turn up his nose, but he'll try to bury it (doesn't work too well when his dish is on a hardwood floor, but he tries).

Althea will eat almost anything as long as it's quality. She turns up her nose at cheap treats, etc., but as long as it's decent quality, she's all over it :)

4. Thanks--yours' are adorable, too. How old is Quinn in the photo?
He looks like a kitten there.

10. Gee--he looks a lot younger!
I really want another kitten, but I don't think mine would be very accepting of him/her!

5. Oops is probably about a five
His favorite dry food is the original Purina Cat Chow but he will eat others if he has to. You can tell he'd rather be eating his Purina, though.

He's absurd with moist food. We used to get him Fancy Feast - he'd lick up all the juice and leave the chunks. Then we tried the Whiskas pouches and he seemed to like that juice better, but he still left the chunks. Then we discovered the Meow Mix pouches and he seems to like those. He'll actually eat those, though very delicately and he never completely finishes it.

He loves his heartworm meds though! :silly:

9. I've been trying to give mine some pouches as a treat, since Melanie
has been refusing everything else. Scarlet loves them--mainly licks the juice (like your's) but will eat a little. Melanie runs--lietrally runs from them. What to do, what to do?

6. One is kind of finicky; the other, not so much.

Teddy

Greatly prefers canned cat food; if I give him the dry stuff he will stand in front of his dish, glare at me and yowl. And he sometimes will decide, on the basis of criteria I have been unable to determine, that on THIS day, the food he liked yesterday is not acceptable. He loves ham and tuna, and will remember if he got a bit the previous day, so even if I give him his favorite canned cat food, he'll howl for the remembered tuna treat. He's about an 8.

Milo

Will eat anything that doesn't try to eat him first, not to mention anything I might be eating, including peanut butter, crackers, and corn. But he especially likes pork chops. One evening he stole a pork chop off my plate when I wasn't looking, dragged it across the room, and devoured most of it before I discovered the crime. Milo is a fur-covered garbage can. Maybe a 2.

11. They are happy kitties.
Especially when they can get pork chops.

14. My fat cat...
...mixes it up; some days he's an absolute 10, others more like a 1 or 2. I'll buy him expensive canned food with chunks of yummy meat, and he'll lick up all the gooey stuff and leave a perfect little pile of clean, dry meat chunks. On the other hand he'll eat potato chips out of my hand, and for some reason loves fresh, raw garlic. Houseplants are also a favorite.

To echo somebody else's comment, he also has a tendency to find and eat cast-off chunks of his own fur. Gross! And he threw up on my roommate's bed this morning. Lovely.

15. That was my post about the cat fur! Scarlet threw up this morning...
...thankfully not on the bed. She used to, but somehow I've got her to do it on the floor.
