HELP SAVE THESE DOGS!
Please pass this on to anyone you know in the North East who might be contemplating getting a dog.

Thanks.

Save the Greys
Posted by P.G. Gandy

From Boston Craigslist:

The greyhound track in Plainfield, CT voted on April 26th that they would discontinue greyhound racing. Unfortunately - and heartbreakingly - they've also decided that rescuers have only two weeks to get the dogs out, and any dogs remaining at the track on May 14th will be euthanized. This is a monumental task because there are at least 500 dogs currently at the track. These are all young, healthy dogs, 2-4 years of age, who would make great family pets.

We've committed to saving as many dogs as we possibly can in the next two weeks.

How can you help?

4. Thanks!
I'll contact them but I'm sure they are already aware of the situation We are talking about 500 dogs. I doubt they have the capacity to save that many.

2. Not entirely true.
They won't be euthanized by the 14th. Good updates at this thread in the Veg group...

3. Greys at the CT track
Don't panic! This is not exactly correct. Yes, the CT track is closing and yes there are many dogs who are going to need to be adopted and yes, greyhounds make incredible pets (I speak from experience as I have two adopted greys who permit me to adore them). However, the track and the state of Connecticut have said that no dog will be put down and they will work to make sure that all are found homes. So, if you have been thinking about adding a dog to your life, please consider adopting a greyhound. They are wonderful, loyal companions who give so much and ask so little (well, ok - they want their own couch and a human to pet them). Don't take my word for it - go to one of your local greyhound adoption group's meet and greets and see for yourself.
