Poll question: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
I know NOTHING about the book or movie. I've always known about the book, but never knew what it's about. I love science fiction, comedy, etc. As you can see, I've got some free time (I just finished my last semester in law school).

1. You could do what I did.
See the movie with a sci-fi nerd who has read the book twice and will explain everything to you. I loved the movie.

2. See the movie...
...then read the book. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the book is fantastic!

3. Read the book...

... then see the movie. The book is a fast read, hard to put down and will keep you hungry until "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe". I have "So Long and Thanks for All The Fish" on the bench behind me. And don't forget your towel.

6. Congratulations!

I'm not a scifi fan and I read everything by Adams I could lay hands on.

There's no one like him.

7. Forget the movie...wait on the book. Get the Original RadioPlay tapes
Edited on Sat May-07-05 09:25 PM by mcscajun
or CD (if available) instead. You'll dive face first into the books after that and enjoy them all the more.

The BBC Radioplay came first (in 1978) and is the best, absolutely best way of introduction to Douglas Adams' zany Galaxy.

I saw the movie this afternoon, and while it was good for us HGTTG junkies, it was spotty and uneven and left me wanting. :sigh:

8. What about the radio series? THAT'S the original, first version.
And probably the best - although the books are great. So it's a toss-up between hearing the radio series and getting the original script and the original jokes, and the wonderful sound effects and performances as they were ment to be experienced, or reading the books and getting more detail and a few more jokes. The BBC TV adaptation was reasonable with crappy effects - all copies of the film should be burned.
