What are you doing/buying for Mother's Day?
And, if you're a mom, what do you want?

1. MrG already (he's so totally unable to contain himself) gave me an emerald
ring with 8 little diamonds surrounding it. MrG is not usually this type. I was shocked, and then stunned. It's beautiful...but I will admit, the washer/dryer combo last year was every bit as appreciated. I love MrG. :hi:

2. Going to brunch at Tavern on Rush....
making dinner for my mother, who will not attend the brunch.

Bought her clothes and a couple of trashy novels. At age 93, she is difficult to buy for.

3. I bought my mom "The Phantom of the Opera" double DVD
She loved the movie. Sis and I are taking her out to lunch Sat. and then Sunday we're going to my aunt's house.

Sis and I also bought her this charm thing that goes on this necklace. And some other things--body lotin, bath stuff, some clothes (boring!) but she'll like them!

4. I am buying my mother gift cards.
She essentially sleeps in her van. I will be buying her something practical, like a gas gift card or a grocery store gift card.

15. Thanks.
It is mostly her choice at this point. She is a bit of a free spirit and hates to be tied down.

5. thinking of fleeing the jurisdiction, here.
i hate mother's day. such a strain on the little darlings to be decent for a WHOLE day. i used to always just want a day to myself. it's not so bad now that they are older. i do get out a lot more.
but i am wishing and hoping for a small miracle to transport me to grand rapids to see a big exhibition of henry moore. it closes sunday. not holding my breath, tho.

6. As a mom I want 2 days w/o kids on a mini-road trip or at a spa.
For my Fundie mom... I haven't figured it out yet. I'm guessing I'll give her the same thing I want - at one of the uber-liberal Santa Fe spas (she's in Alb.).

7. My mom asked for those bathtub caddy things
She loves to take a bubble bath and read so the caddy is a great idea. Plus, she'll have a place to hold the coffee too.

For me? Well my husband's birthday is this Sunday too so I'm skipping mother's day this year so that my daughter and I can concentrate on his day. I might treat myself to a manicure/pedicure sometime next week, but I'm not expecting anything on Sunday.

My folks said it's just another way for big companies to cash in - this time on your mom.

12. Please tell me that you don't celebrate
Father's Day either. BTW, calling your mom and telling her thank you and that you love her is virtually free.

10. Going to the Waterfront Theater in Key West to see
the comedy, "The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged)". Mother's day present from my hubby.
Daughters are giving me a day at a spa.
I am loved and appreciated. I am also feared when people don't present gifts on Mother's Day.

13. Sent my mother in law a card
and I've requested a date with my husband for the weekend after Mother's Day (we can't do it this weekend).

I don't care what my daughter gets me, I'd love her to death if she got me nothing.

16. A large cauldron with a lid.
2. Prescriptives makeup.
3. Dinner at the Olive Garden.
4. My dog to get over her case of hives.
5. And impeachment proceedings to begin.

My family can take care of the first three items on the list; I'm counting on god/dess to handle the last two, the sooner the better. My puppy's on prednisone and I'm on Prozac, and we're both more than ready for the hives and the chimp to disappear from our world.

17. I have no idea!
My mom's 80, so she doesn't want any stuff. If I try to take her out for brunch or dinner, she always demands that she pay, which is just lose-lose for me - either I'm the asshole having an argument over the check on Mother's Day, or I'm the asshole whose mom pays on Mother's Day, so I don't take her out to eat anymore. In recent years I've usually gone over to her house to hang out with her, cook her dinner and do big chores she can't do anymore, like tidy up the garage or whatever, which has actually worked out to be a lot of fun, so hopefully the attic's a mess or something.

19. It's true.
Material tokens are nice, but now that she's 80 and I've got a pretty all-consuming job, time has become a million times more important.

20. I'm going to be a godmother that day
for the third time! My new little adorable godson will be baptized on Mother's Day so I'll be spending time with him (in the church and then a little picnic to celebrate). My mother will be attending that, too, and then I'll hang out with her and do whatever she wants to.
:hi:

21. For my mom, I'm mailing a package with
perfumes, a rain fountain, and a care package of practical stuff because she's in need of all the basics.

For my mother-in-law it will be the traditional card, flowers, and breakfast.

And a big thanks to both of them for giving us life 'n all.

My hubster usually gets me some flowers or a plant for being a 'mommy' to the cats :)

My mom will be on a cruise ship in Alaska on Sunday. We'll take her out when she gets back.

24. I will be missing my mom, but also enjoying my own kids. Thank God for
the circle of life. Makes the losses a bit easier to bear.

Will also hopefully be purchasing seeds and topsoil for my flower beds.

25. I know it's hard
I lost my mom six years ago. I think working on your garden is an excellent idea. I find digging in the dirt and nurturing plants quite therapeutic.

27. I hope my boys take me to breakfast.
or get me a second pair of running shoes (so I don't have to lug the one pair I have back and forth from home to gym).

I sent my mother a nice card. She' leaving for tarpon fishing in Tampa on Sunday, with my dad and two of my sisters.
