4. I voted "none of the above"...
... because the question is completely moot. It's a "How often do you beat your wife?" sort of question. That's because the last several times I went to a dentist and had some fairly extensive oral surgery, there was NO pain. As a matter of fact, the experiences were actually FUN because of all the drugs they gave me. Laughing gas, intravenous sedation, and local anesthetic (lydocaine, I think).

7. Or, instead of poo-pooing my question from your sedated high-horse
you could've thought back to trips that did involve some sort of discomfort, be it in the patient's chair or the waiting room, or not answered at all.

Thanks for contributing

5. I love the Dentist...
I don't quite know why, I find it relaxing. Even the drilling and scraping.... it's strange.

13. Wow.
Nothing makes me more nervous than the sound of "Saturday in the Park" or "Baker Street" or "Islands in the Stream".... JUST because they remind me of the fucking dentist.

8. Only had the needle for my wisdom teeth
I chose not to get a shot for my first cavity which was drilled, but not deeply. After not going to the dentist for a few years, I had a few cavities. For those I had air abraision done and chose not to have a needle either. In both cases, the needle would have hurt more than the work done on the cavities. Some of the shots in my mouth for my wisdom were quite painful.

10. I need more choices.
Like the night before, trying to sleep when you know you have to go. Or the moment before they stick the needle into the jaw joint, and you know that not only is that the most painful stick, but it's going to hurt for days after when you move your jaw.

12. The hook shaped scraper
on the back (inside) of your bottom teeth. That's the part I hate. Otherwise, not a problem. The dentist usually gives the gas, rub of a local and then the needle, so that's never a problem.

Plus the lady that cleans my teeth listens to classical music, so that helps me relax.

14. Never had gas, Dr. today said I could probably go without novacaine
I declined, wimped out, which is a good thing. He only saw a tiny pinhole cavity, said he could get it out in 3 to 4 seconds. I got the needle. He did his 3 to 4 seconds, then another 3 to 4 seconds, then another, and another and another and another and some more.

Turns out it was a lot deeper than he thought.

16. I'd have to say it was the time the dentist cut away my gum tissue
in a part of my mouth where he'd forgotten the Novocaine.

21. I'm scared of the root canal
uggh, not a walk in the park at all.

I did have all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once, but I was knocked out.

20. the tongue harpoon
That sharp thing they scrape teeth with. I have trouble remembering to keep my tongue back.

Never had anything drilled.

I also hate the x-ray machine, because I don't trust it.

23. I like watching the teeth scraping, I like watching all the nasties
busting free. The drill gets to me because there's something wrong about watching smoke leave my mouth
