After all that has happened here..I need to confess
I am exactly who I am. I have no other names on here and have never tried to get one either. I am the same person on DU that I am in real life and some of you who were at the Cleveland meetup can vouch for that.
I don't come on here to lie, cheat anyone, scam or fantasize. Even though I have said some things that pissed people off, I never intentionally come her to troll or start flamefests.
As for this internet thingie... There are a lot of people out there who are shit. It's not the internet's fault, it can be anyone who can scam ya and take advantage. I'm not one of them, but I am not walking around with my head in La La land either.

Damn! I'm glad I got that off my chest. If I hurt any of you or you feel that I conned you in to thinking I am someone that I'm not..I am truly sorry. Don't let my confession here make you bitter toward people or ruin your trust in people.
So there, I confessed. I feel much better.

:woohoo:<---That little shit cracks me up..lol

1. Me too.
Although no one has met me in person (at least that I know of) I am real, and I swear I will get to one of these DU get-togethers.

Oh, and I really am a smart-ass.

2. If anyone has the ovaries to pretend be a thrice-divorced
Edited on Wed May-04-05 09:57 AM by buddyhollysghost
46-year-old unemployed single mom living in a trailer in the deep, dark woods with a bunch of chickens and dogs and cats and horses and college kids hanging around at all hours, they can have my alter ego...otherwise, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Edit because my daughter - antigone382 ( really, it's not another persona - it really is my child) says we must use "ovaries" instead of "balls."

6. I opened another account here with the idea of changing my screenname
because I didn't like this one anymore. I thought better of it because I didn't want to lose my posts and everything.

I know some people have opened other accounts for valid reasons. I guess I was just talking about the "split personality" thing. :)

Both my hubby and I studied art history and he taught college courses in art history. He's a fine artist too. :)

8. Me too! I am who I am.
I am a horse loving, middle aged professional with a full time job and a full time horse hobby in addition to a husband and family.

I met lots of Atlanta DUers at our Atlanta meet up. They were all fine folks who I look forward to seeing again soon. They are very involved in local and state politics and dedicated to advancing the causes of progressive Democrats.

I find it puzzling that someone's life is so pathetic and sad that they have to pretend to be several different people online. That said, I do know that this can and does happen. I try to balance trust with healthy skepticism.

:woohoo: < I love that little smiley too!

15. "I try to balance trust with healthy skepticism."
That's good thinkin'
I just find it strange that people need to spend so much time trying to "con" people. To me it sounds more of a sickness than anything. I wonder if the Internet has spawned some new mental disorders?

19. I think the internet has "enabled" those with mental disorders
Edited on Wed May-04-05 10:20 AM by CottonBear
to compound and worsen their troubles and delusions.

I have a friend who was "conned" by someone she met first online (on a soap opera star fan forum) and then in person. Basically, the woman was not who she pretended to be and was bat shit crazy to boot. My friend finally had to threaten the other woman by saying that if she ever called or e-mailed her again (much less come to her home) that she would call the police immediately. She never heard from the crazy lady again.

Lesson learned: don't give out specific personal inforamtion like name, phone #, job or address.

9. I have previous names, but not sock puppets
I was mkregel and AbsyntheNsugar.

The first I was just sick of using my real name :)

And the second I was sick of being mistaken for a girl...

17. As I said above
I understand changing names on here. Most people will tell everyone, and the ones that do it because of security reasons (stalkers and such) don't tell anyone for understandable reasons.
It's the ones that sit and talk to themselves with two different names that freak me out a bit. :scared:
