Doctors remove maggots from woman's nose

Bangkok - Threating what appears to be becoming a common complaint in the kingdom, Thai doctors recently removed 34 maggots from a woman's nasal cavity after she came to hospital complaining of a swollen cheek, media reports said on Tuesday.

Doctor Tawee Thanuparp-rangsan, of Nakorn Ping Hospital in Chiang Mai, 560 kilometres north of Bangkok, said the 38-year-old woman had checked in to the hospital complaining of severe pain in her left cheek.

"I checked her nasal cavity and found a lot of fly maggots there," Tawee told The Nation newspaper. Doctors had to operate on the woman, a pig farmer, removing 34 maggots from inside her nose.

"Probably while she was sleeping, a fly went up her nose and laid its eggs, which then hatched into larvae," Tawee speculated.

6. Thanks! Now I have a gross story to tell Hubby.
He always likes to tell his latest Infectious Disease stories at dinner, and now I have one to get him with. ;)

He usually starts his stories with fountains of pus, though . . . Hmm . . . I wonder if I can dress this story up a bit . . .

7. Cool story
Maggots have a healing effect on decaying flesh which is all they dine on yummy. The hostess likely had a minor infection in progress and the maggots just cleaned it up for her.

Now would you like to hear a real maggot story concerning five bushels of menhaden crab bait left in a crab boat? In the hot sun? Five bushels of maggots?

17. Yes
I did not wish to mention it but rumor had it that maggots were applied to wounds of American military in Korea in an effort to head off further tissue damage.

True? I do not know.

13. I saw a story on ABC one time about how the VA is so dirty and the
patients were mistreated if they were treated at all and a male patient there had the same thing. It was gross and sad. To think this is how they get treated. It was a hidden camera deal and the things it showed blew my mind. Horrible!!!!!!

20. My friend's kid stuck a bean up his nose (he was 3)
Apparently it lodged in his sinus cavity and SPROUTED...

His little face swelled up and he had a horrible odor.. The pediatrician admitted him to the hospital to treat the "infection".. They sedated him and poked around in there and voila'..a mini beanstalk that had started to decay :puke:

He's a grown up now, and denies that it ever happened:P
