Judging Amy
Anybody watch last night? Man I thought it was great and I think it would be so awesome if the show continued with her running a senate campaign (with her brother as her speech writer).

Tyne Daly was great with her first reaction to news of her daughter possibly running for senate. I think that is a reaction a lot of us progressives would have. How do you run for senate and be a senator with out compromising your beliefs? Can you work for change within the political machinery?

2. Highlights
Amy hears a case involving a 13-year-old boy charged with attempted murder who was suffering from prescribed drug-induced paranoia. When she sentences him to the lesser charge of inpatient treatment the attorneys come back with a problem. Because of lack of funding or hold on funding because of senate consideration the facility is not taking anymore kids. She said well then lets send him to facility x (similar to the first facility) and they said none of the facilities are accepting anybody new pending senate outcome. She goes on to say I am not going to put this child in a juvi facility where he will be forever tormented just because he was prescribed the wrong amount of medication.

Maxine helps a 9-year-old girl sold by her mother into prostitution. Amy pays her last respects to Graciela. Overwhelmed with grief, she announces her intention to leave the bench. Maxine regrets breaking up with Ignacio.

Amy calls Bruce to apologize and asks for his support. Calls him from the train station on way to DC and leaves a message. At the end of the show when she sits before congress he shows up in the first row. He said well you called and then it shows them holding hands across the aisle.

Ignacio proposes to Maxine.

She is going to run for senator. Her mom's first response was of displeasure. She said you can't make change amongst vipers on capitol hill. Was really great epidsode. By end of show when the family is watching Amy on C-Span her mom says you go girl. Amy goes to Washington to testify at a Senate hearing on gang violence and the juvenile justice system. A guy that wants her to run for senate had this padded... blah blah speech and of course she put it aside before she spoke to the panel and spoke from her heart.

Whoever thought!

Incidentally - thanks for the recap. I'm sorry I missed it - in fact I had a DREAM about it!

I recently started watching this show on I-don't-know-what cable channel in reruns and I really love it! I didn't know it was still in its original run.

Amy Brenneman is great, but my favorite is Tyne Daly, and I also love the fact that not every woman on that show is reed-thin.

5. I really like that show
But I read in my local paper the other day that it's likely to be cancelled. :(

6. I hope not
the episode last night would make for such a great intro into a new season. If Joan of Arcadia in 77th place stays and Judging Amy in 48th place gets booted I'll be pissed.

7. I hope it stays too
(I haven't seen last night's episode yet, I couldn't stay up that late, so I taped it.)

I don't know where the reporter got the info that the show is "likely to be cancelled." I just hope she's wrong.
