Man Says McDonald's Worker Tossed Hot French Fry Oil At Him
<snip>

A North Carolina man who said he was doused with a cup of scalding french fry oil by a McDonald's employee returned to the Dauphin County franchise armed with a pipe and threatening that he had a shotgun, police said.

Kent O'Briant of Roxboro, N.C., claimed yesterday that the Monday night oil attack by employee Norman Rivera was unprovoked and possibly a case of mistaken identity, but police said they were hoping to speak to Rivera before closing their investigation.

Rivera, who is in his 20s and lives in the first block of Evergreen Street, Harrisburg, could not be located by police yesterday. He had not been charged with a crime as of yesterday, Swatara Twp. Sgt. Robert Simmonds said.

In an interview with The Patriot-News yesterday, O'Briant said he was in the area on business when he pulled his truck into the drive-through at the McDonald's on Eisenhower Boulevard around 8 p.m.

He said he placed his order for a chef's salad and small fries and was still waiting for it when he was accosted by Rivera, who came out a side door holding a cup.

"He said, 'You want some of me?'" O'Briant said.

"I don't even know you, boy," he said he replied.

O'Briant said he had no idea what Rivera was talking about, but he got out of the truck and argued with him. He said Rivera might have mistaken him for someone in the carload of rowdy patrons behind him.

"He had me mixed up with somebody else," O'Briant said.

As he climbed back into his truck and was rolling up the window, Rivera tossed the hot oil at him, he said. The oil hit O'Briant's truck and face, causing burns to the latter.

He said he went to the hospital and then reported the incident to police.

Police reports mention details that O'Briant initially did not tell the newspaper.

1. Is this McDonald's aggressive new sales campaign for fries?
I thought they were just supposed to say, "Do you want fries with that?", not douse you with the oil they were cooked in. I may avoid McDonald's until they finish this little promotional bit. :sarcasm:
