I'm graduating next week (BA History) and I need to get together a CV. Where do I begin?

1. Thinking about applying to grad school one day.
"libnnc" I'm thinking about applying to grad school one day. I would suggest you research various schools and also check out where you can take the GRE test that is required. The website is www.gre.org . Check it out and look around. While you are preparing for the test start filling out applications and talking with your professors since they will have to fill out a LOR (Letter of Recommendation).

Like for example, I want to go to the University of Pennsylvania to get an MSc (Masters of Science) in Public Interest Anthropology. I have:

a)take the GRE
b)Fill out application, do additional research,
c)visit various professors at the school (UPenn),
d)have former professors from your undergrad college fill out LOR's (most applications come with sheets for professors to fill out, find out how many you need, it depends on the program and the school you are applying to).
e)figure out if your only going for you Masters or you PH.D.

I hope my small overview helps!

Good luck and best of wishes with everything. Congratulations on earning you BA in History!

:hi:

2. A CV or a resume?
CV's are usually pretty long, and generally include substantial research experience (i.e., senior thesis), any peer-reviewed journal publications, teaching experience. If you do have to put one together, you may just want to ask a professor that you're close with. A lot of professors tend to be arrogant types that would be perfectly willing to discuss their CV's (one that I had my first year told me that his would probably "knock my socks off").

A resume is basically a listing of your education, previous jobs, extracurricular activities...career planning offices are usually pretty good at reviewing drafts, and there are about a million resume-writing web sites.

Congrats on getting your BA! I'm a history major suffering through finals right now, and I certainly wish that I was graduating!

3. The best way to do your CV is to look at some examples
Google: sample curriculum vitae

Also check out your department's website and if your profs have webpages they will probably have their own CVs posted there.

Congrats on graduating and good luck!
