I bought organic milk and organic eggs--praise me!
Please?

But that's good, right? They are fed better and are free range (the chickens anyway)...right?

It certainly was more expensive, anyway!

2. The milk lasts longer than non-organic milk, too!
Also, no nasty hormones to deal with. I buy organic milk and eggs myself.

9. The date was a big motivator, LOL.
We usually buy a big ole milk and it just sits there until we're afraid to drink it.
Hopefully we'll be able to make *some* use for the milk with the longer time frame.

:hi:

3. We buy organic milk and eggs as well, and as much as we can
from local farms who do not feed antibiotics or "parts" or genetic foods to their animals.

Eggs purchased locally put even the organic eggs to shame, and those other tasteless eggs do not even come close. If you have never had scrambled eggs from fresh eggs, you really should, you will be blown away.

And yes, organic milk and eggs stay fresher WAY longer. We stopped eating out of the box late last summer, and although it is more time consuming, we have lost many pounds and not really changed our eating habits. And even though it appears more expensive to go organic, when you plan your meals, you actually spend less.

11. Hmm, local farms...
I used to live down the street from a dairy farm (I didn't care back then)--I wonder if there are any farms in this area. Thanks for the suggestion, I've never had scrambled eggs from fresh eggs, and now I want to!
(Though, I also am trying to lose 15 pounds and am feeling ridiculously hungrier since making that decision--I also would be perfectly willing to try fried boot, LOL)

6. you did a good thing
I've been buying organic foods whenever possible for several years.

I believe that the lack of additives, antibiotics, growth hormones, improper feed to the animals, pesticides on fruit and vegetables will produce a healthier final product for our consumption.

12. I started feeling weird about it...
I'm finding out what's so great about organic, but without knowing anything at all I figure it's got to be better for me.

I wish we could all afford to eat right, though. That's a pet issue for me. Poor people eat crappily, because organic stuff can cost twice as much as the 'regular' kind. I know a mom who thinks McDonald's is a "good meal". I love me some McDonald's, LOL, but I wouldn't mistake that for good food made without additives, etc....all the stuff you name.

That is the best thing you can do! I mean it. Seriously, everyone should buy organic eggs, milk.. actually all dairy products.

So good job! :applause:

18. Are you a vegetarian, also?
Hippie-ish parents and all, LOL!

I would really like to go veggie...but I think it costs more, takes more actual involvement in planning/getting the right nutrients (and I have a little kid, I don't want her teeth to fall out!)...

plus, I also like pork chops and cheeseburgers. :(

19. I couldn't ever do it.
I would like to, I know it's a good thing, and the poor animals... but I like meat. I don't eat a lot of it, but I do enjoy it when I have it. :(

23. Your kid's teeth won't fall out if you are vegetarian.
My 10 year old is a vegetarian. (Octo-lavo, but she really doesn't consume much dairy--she likes soy milk and other soy products).

Most Americans get twice as much protein as they need each day anyway, so as a vegetarian, I'm still getting enough.

I've been veg for a month and have never felt better. I've also never eaten so healthy (lots of fruits and veggies!).

25. Oh woops, I meant her teeth would fall out because of me, LOL.
Edited on Tue May-03-05 10:14 PM by tjdee
I was a vegetarian for about a year and I basically ate all carbs. Some fruit...a veggieburger every now and then...I think...I lost a lot of weight and was pretty happy though.

I started eating meat again when I got pregnant, and if we stopped eating meat I'm too busy/lazy to make up the protein/iron/etc. in other places. I don't think she'd grow so well with the diet I had as a veggie. So if her teeth fell out or whatever, it'd be because I'm not making sure she's getting the right nutrients.

Eek, I didn't mean it to sound like I would be blaming that on being a vegetarian, though I just read my post and that's how it appears...

28. It's good, but
Don't take my word on it (I have an "agenda" according to some). Google "free range" and see what it really entails.

I think that it's somewhat better than some of the conditions the animals are kept in (for eggs, battery cages are the most inhumane containment system for animals), but it's largely misleading.

Kudos to you for making a conscious decision, though!!!!!!!!
