OMG DID ANYONE JUST HEAR THAT SONG?!
Edited on Mon May-02-05 11:41 PM by Timebound
Who was that man on the Tonight Show?! He sang a song called 'when the President talks to God' and I cannot believe they let such a critical piece of music to the administration on TV!

3. Bright Eyes
Are the conversations brief or long?
does he ask to rape our womens' rights
or to send poor farm kids off to die?
will the president reccomend an oil hike
when the president talks to god?

4. Brilliant
Jay looked like he was about to shit his pants I wonder if he heard that song rehearsed and knew what was going to be performed.

I know what CD I'm buying with my pittance this weekend. I'll eat Ramen for that.

Oh that woke me up right out of my funk. There must be hope...I thought it was dead.

9. Sounded good
I'm suprised they let it play cause they tape it early in the day, as soon as it started, I hit my DVR button to record it.

Awesome musician from my hometown and high school.

Kansas City's NBC affiliate didn't play it, though. They had a rerun with Noah Wyle. Sucks.

Oh, well, I've heard the song plenty of times, and will certainly hear it in concert next week. Gonna be a lot of fun.

His recent albums are "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning" and "Digital Ash In A Digital Urn," but I prefer his 2002 release "Lifted or the Story is in the Soil Keep Your Ear To The Ground." All of them are excellent, but Lifted is pure brilliance.

Oh, almost forgot. If you prefer something a little more rock-oriented, Conor's other project, Desaparecidos, made and album about commercialism, urban sprawl, etc. "Read Music Speak Spanish." It's about Omaha, specifically, but it really applies across the board.

The song he played is only available through iTunes, free download though.

11. That was truly amazing... and I'm shocked he sang it on The Tonight Show!
Edited on Tue May-03-05 11:25 AM by VolcanoJen
At the beginning of the show, when Jay was talking about the guests, he said that Bright Eyes was going to sing a protest song, and it was going to knock everyone over. He said it would galvanize the audience.

From the crowd response (they absolutely cheered the "voter fraud" line), it sounded to me like it united the audience...

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the President talks to God,
Does he ever think that maybe He's not?
That that voice is just inside his head?
When he kneels next to the Presidential bed,
Does he ever smell his own bullshit?
When the President talks to God?

I doubt it. I doubt it.

It was revolutionary, in the sense that a piece of free speech this powerful was performed on such a popular, mainstream television show. I can't believe the fundies and wingnuts aren't screaming their heads off about this, and asking for a Jay Leno Boycott.

I'm so glad other DUers saw it!!

15. From what I hear
Conor hates network TV appearances. So props to him for getting on and speaking (or singing) his mind.
