My house is infested with ants!!
Someone shoot me now, it would be less painful. They used to come every spring, but it's been a few years now.. and they are back! All over.. everything... >_<

9. if you can locate
where they are getting into the house from outside --

save your coffee grounds and scatter them around the foundation

it works - we do it every spring

7. "Terro" is the stuff that will kill the little black ants.

6. Yep, it's that time of year.
We've been spotting them in the living room lately. Big ones. Ugh. Hopefully the geckos that normally invade this time of year will come soon -- we like them. They eat the ants and then disappear when there's no more ants to eat.

8. Grants Ant Stakes...
Someone mentioned them on DU, so I ordered them a couple of months ago. I put two out, and the problem is significantly diminished.

A little more cleaning and a few more stakes, and I expect we'll be rid of them for good soon. :-)

10. Bomb them
I personally prefer the Raid fumigators to the regular bombs, because they get deeper into the crevices.

The first summer upon my return to Mass, carpenter ants were everywhere. Ugly SOBs. I finally dragged the animals out back, set them up in a cage for several hours and set the bombs off.

They were all dead when I got back upstairs. Last summer, there were a few stragglers, but only about 25 or so for the whole summer. The bombs obviously got their nest, and the stragglers came from somewhere else.

I had a huge influx of flies this year--the fly strips work beautifully for those nasty bastards.

Just make sure if you bomb that you remove to the outside all animals, and that all the windows are closed. After two hours you can go in and air the place out for an hour, and then return indoors. Works brilliantly on fleas as well.

Another alternative is to go to the store and get some "Roach Pruf" which is straight boric acid, and spread it behind counters, appliances, any place they could be coming in from. While it says it's for roaches, it's for almost any insects. Boric acid can also be purchased at any drugstore OTC, but the teeny amount you get is nothing compared to the quantity you get as "Roach Pruf."

Another one I heard about is eucalyptus leaves, but I believe that's for fleas. Never tried it.
