Goodbye Cadence

My friend Cadence decided to leave DU. I will miss her.

i'm really sad - she's an incredibly funny person.

65. Well, that just reaffirms the decision I made long ago

to hang back in getting too active in DU.

I've been here since 2001 and have gone through hot and cold phases with this place. The secret to my longevity (for me, anyway) is to remain one or two steps above a lurker here.

That's why I make somewhat brief responses to threads or post in threads by people I've come to trust.

In general, I avoid more volatile threads and posters (and I'm a veteran of quite a few flame wars here, so I've had my share of heated exchanges).

I love DU and have made quite a few contributions (monetary and otherwise) to it. I plan to remain with DU for some time to come. However, I've also reached a point in my life where I've decided to keep it somewhat at arm's length just because I've come to see that it's just an Internet discussion forum, after all. There's a whole wide world beyond this computer screen and a deeper and more complex reality within and around me than these words I'm typing right now can adequately capture.

Just my two cents...don't even know if it adds up to that much. :hi:
